Not a SAHW...yet
I'm writing this in anticipation of becoming a SAHW early next year. After several years of being stressed out and miserable at work, my DH agreed that I should quit my job. Actually, he would prefer that I found another job, but is willing to try this instead. After sitting on the fence about this for a few months, I finally realized that the ONLY reason I was working was for the money. Given all the negatives, it was worth trying to live on one income.
We don't have children yet, but hope to in the future. Regardless, I know there will be plenty to keep me busy. My only concern is following through on the decision.

Congratulations!
I'm glad you want to stay home with your future children. Getting used to living on one income is great for any household, especially if you are going to have kids.
Welcome!
Yes you will get that from pe
Yes you will get that from people as a SAHW/M I have had people act like I am just a dumb housewife when they asks what I do and I say I am a SAHM. Not to offend anyone who works but many of my sons friends parents both work ALOT and I have even seen his one friend cry because his parents are never home and spend no time with him. My house is the one that all the neighbor kids come to. It drives me nuts at times but I do feel bad for them. Sometimes they are even left home alone. One kid has even been locked outside!! I asked him once what his mother tells him to do if he gets hungry or has to pee. He told me she tells him to go to a neighbors house!! Sorry but I would rather be a SAHM anyday!!

I too have neighbors like that...locking kids out..it shows you how cruel people can be. Too bad you don't have to get a license to have kids.
I only work part time but believe me when my DH says I can retire you will all HEAR ME from your homes
kids need their parents, not things!!
and don't you hate when they say ''won't you be bored?? These people obviously need to get a REAL life if they are bored at home
Who has time to be bored?????
Who has time to be bored??????
Ping!
It's hard to believe it's been several months since I made that first post. Just a ping to say I'm still "out there" in SAHW-land.
SAHNK
I'm so glad I found this. I've been a SAHNK for about 5 months now and often find myself feeling alone and ancient in my thoughts...especially since I'm in a new town and all. So great to see all of you here!!

Thank you for your response.
Thank you for your response. I've meant to reply for some time but decided to wait until I submitted my letter of resignation - which I did this week.
Now I only have a few days of notice to work.
It was amazing looking into the faces of different people as I told them I was leaving my job. At work, the looks were mainly shock
and sometimes concern. The most common question was "Do you have another job?" Ironically, there was a large amount of "I wish I could do that." when I explained a little.
It was strikingly different among my non-work friends. At a volunteer group I've been involved in for a few years, the immediate response was congratulations. These are people who know the "real me", so it was very validating. Even before I said anything, a few knew something important had happened by the difference in my expression.
So, now I'm counting the days.
