Week One at Home

Today is my first week anniversary of being a SAHS.

This first week, I gave myself permission to be "on vacation at home". I've never really had that opportunity before. Whenever I've had more than a long weekend off work, it has been spent traveling. I don't mean to complain about the past - those were amazing experiences - but it is not the same as having "down" time.

Also, I don't mean I did nothing all week. Each day, I prepared the meals, did the laundry and dishes. I began minimal morning and evening routines. Also, I started small steps in my weekly routines - menu planning, grocery shopping, etc. I even made time for an afternoon visit with a friend.

I felt so tired the first couple days, but each day brought more energy than the previous. I think all I really needed was enough sleep and a healthy diet.

Final note, I haven't had more than a fleeting thought about "my" projects at my former job. I thought I would be concerned about how they were progressing, but I'm not. Smiling

Give yourself the destressing time

Submitted by Lynn on Fri, 01/23/2004 - 2:06pm.

It's a transition from doing what someone tells you to do to managing your own time. Give yourself some down time. Homeschoolers say to give a child a month of "de-schooling" for every year in school. That may be extreme if you've spent the last 30 years in the work force (I don't know how long you've been working outside the home), but I don't think it's that far off the mark. Good luck!
