I emailed the knitting cancercap site to get information about crocheting caps since I just started knitting. A couple of you asked if I would pass on the information after I got it and here it is.
Hi Amee
Thanks for your interest in chemocaps for cancer patients....
Unfortunately after much trial and testing on cancer patients it was unanimous....they didn't like the feel of a crochet chemocap and it seems to be a global agreement......With
knitting the stitches are small and fine and very smooth and they all love wearing the
caps outside, inside, around the house, to bed...etc, etc, etc
They felt that the hand knit caps are very comfy even for being in bed, head on a pillow and the crochet caps were definitely not... Patterns for crochet chemocaps are difficult to find and generally not availale because crochet doesn't lend itself to chemocaps....
.
Since you are a knitter perhaps you will consider knitting up one or two or a few chemocaps for a local cancer treatment center/hospital/hospice where you live...
It's one neighbor helping another .......and that is what it is all about.
For those who only crochet there are many wonderful programs desperate for hats for
warmth and crochet is equally as wonderful as knit....examples: shelters for abused women and children, elementary school children in impoverished areas, children in
crisis, etc
