Bake Sale for Democracy a Huge Success

...at least at our house! We had 16 bakers/helpers and sold more than $600 worth of baked goodies, coffee and lemonade! And we weren't even the biggest bake sale in Portland. The money is going to MoveOn.org in its campain to defeat Bush. This was so much fun and so energizing! Wonderful people on my porch.

How fun!
I tried to get one going, but I could not find a site and was overwhelmed by the permit requirements. I didn't think my house would be successful, but I think I was wrong. I went to some around the metro in some very residential areas -- i.e., minimal foot traffic -- and they were doing great. We went late in the day (around 3) and they didn't have anything much but juice and pop left!
I'm betting a total of .5 mil raised. I'll be curious.
residential bake sales
I'm not at any kind of major thoroughfare and we had people lined up down the stairs and onto the street! So next time just do it at your house. You'll have fun, I promise!

Cool!!
I'll bet that Josie and Louisa had a lot of fun, too. Will there be more bake sales?

I wasn't able to do it-- just
I wasn't able to do it-- just TOO soon after Passover, no time to go and buy flour AND bake, and then the morning of, had to do some work on the musical. I'm glad it went well!
Condoleezza Rice Krispie Treats!
Dang, I wish I'd thought of that: The bake sale totals are out. More than 1,000 bake sales nationwide raised $750,000 in one day. Yep. Pretty much.

bake sale questions
Lynn,
I'm a journalist researching a story on the renewed popularity and appeal of bake sales. (I'm actually work for a city magazine in Texas, but I'm working on this as a freelance assignment for a national publication.) I was hoping we might talk. Please reply here and/or call me.
