How to remove lint balls on polyester washed with towels

Just me's picture

I have a very nice pair of slacks which I accidentally washed and dryed with towels. The result was tiny little lint balls stuck like glue to the polyester. I have tried combing...doesnt work.
Is there anything that can be applied to remove the worst of this damage??? Thanks

crayons

jennye's picture

Hey, this happened to me just the other day (thanks to my husband who taught the 2 year old to put them in the overalls pocket on the bib during church). It didn't get on TOO much, but enough to make me really mad. I haven't tried yet, but someone down at the fire department (where my husband hangs out in his offtime. There was some crayon on DH's EMT pants) said to get a hot iron and some brown paper. Turn the clothes so that the crayon marks are facing the brown paper and iron the opposite side of the fabric (so iron on pants on the paper on the ironing board). Make sense? It's supposed to work.

As for the item of clothing that was the culprit and got the worse of the crayon, I washed it in HOT water and soap by itself and most of it came out. I lined dried it, just in case. I'll run it thru again just to be sure.

let marks on dark clothes

Ding's picture

when I wash my dark clothes I have white lent marks on them. Even a
lent brush does not take them off. I don't know if it is the soap. I have tried powder and liquid. I have tried warm water and cold water even a liquid fabric softener but nothing has helped. I only notice this on the darks. Could it be the machine it self. Any suggestions

greasy sheets

Janine's picture

HELP! I two sets of nice sheets with a high thread count (my first "grown up" sheets I got when I got married) that are only few years old, but are yellowed and grungy. My husband is one of those people with oily skin/scalp, and it is ruining the sheets. I've tried bleach, I've tried vinegar. One set of sheets is white, the other is light green. Any help will be much appreciated!

Have you tried Oxyclean? I

jennye's picture

Have you tried Oxyclean? I had offwhite one piece baby pjs that were my favorite on my babies (had an Atlanta Braves logo on it). My third child's diaper had major blowout and nothing got it out. When #4 came along I only used those pjs if we were home, they were stained really bad. Even though the stain had sat there for 3 YEARS, I soaked in in Oxyclean for a few hours and it was completely gone, just like new!

I mixed 1/4 cup in a gallon of water, I think. Maybe it was half a cup. Let it soak overnight and see what that does. Oxyclean will not harm or breakdown the fabric like bleach will (learned my lesson on bleach. I let a shirt soak in there over night and the next morning there was no shirt left, just shreds! Luckily it was just one of the kids t-shirts).

mysterious fading on clothing

Guest's picture

All of a sudden my medium to dark colored laundry is coming out of the laundry with what looks like faded areas. And, they don't feel soft. Sort of like it could be a film. I tried washing again and running the rinse twice. No luck. I am still using the same laundry products.... Tide, Tide coldwater, and oxyclean. I'm thinking it might be the machine???? Has anyone else experienced this and does anyone have a solution?

Faded wool baseball cap

I know that fabrics with nylon in them tend to gray with age and that hot water and heat from the dryer are part of the cause. Has anyone found a way to restore white items with nylon in them to their original white? I have tried Oxyclean but it has no impact.

BO armpit stains on white T's

P. Nihiser's picture

My son is a Marine home for the holidays. Was helping him with laundry. What will take these smelly body odor stains out of his white undershirts? Help!!!!

tape

Honey's picture

I have had this problem. I use lengths of wide brown tape (we call it parcel tape in the UK, not sure of your equivalent?) and just press it onto the material and remove to lift off the lint. Takes a long time and you get through numerous pieces of tape, but it works!

Hope that helps Smiling

Souring clothes

Graduated Motherhood's picture

I have the answer, Sanifast. This is an amazing product. It is a fabric softener. You can leave your laundry in the washing machine for a week, in the summer heat and come back and it will not smell at all. No mold. I know I did this, by accident I left a load in the washer went on vacation opened it to put in the vacation clothes and thought I would die when I saw what I had done. Amazingly there was no odor, I put it up to my nose, no odor. And ladies you know we have a keen sense of smell, nothing, no odor. This is also a sanitizing fabric softener. This product was sold only to hospitals up until maybe a year ago but it wasn't fair that the public could not enjoy this. Mother's with young children, bachelors that are notorious for leaving their laundry and going off for the weekend, everyone should have the ability to have a product that will keep their laundry fresh. There is no color, and no scent that is why it is great for babies. And, think of the money you save also not having to re-wash, you save the environment, and time. This is by far one of my favorite products and you have to buy it online at sanifast.com. Take a peak, you don't have to buy it but you will be doing your laundry again.

I hope this helps you and everyone else I love this stuff especially since I live above the mildew line and previosly lived where the humidity was high and everything stayed wet.

Best to you

BO armpit stains

Guest's picture

Have you tried washing them with regular laundry detergent with 1 cup of liquid Pine-sall added? When I was in the military and living in San Antonio, TX.; we used this method. No pit stains, No BO smell. No it doesn't leave a pine fresh scent after you dry them. Use softener or not, it makes no difference.

Sprinkle with cornstarch or

Guest's picture

Sprinkle with cornstarch or baking soda enough to cover stain and let sit for a hour or so. Then shake out the excess powder and wash as usual on the hotest wash temperature. If it's a bad stain you may have to do this twice. My husband has the same issue. This is the best advice I recieved. Good luck!

white lines on darks too

Guest's picture

i have the same issue but not sure if it's lint. i wonder if it's leftover bleach from an earlier whites load. also it only hits my dark shirts. i can have dark pants in the same load and don't have any issues. this problem has been driving me nuts over the years. it just happened to a new shirt that was washed for the first time. any advice out there?

A disposable razor works

A disposable razor works well. Just skim it over the surface of the fabric so as not to cut holes.

RE: Blueberry Stains

cjsmom44's picture

Living in Maine and dealing with fresh blueberry stains I have found my answer...VINEGAR.....soak item in Vinegar and water...and if that does not work dab with full strength vinegar...
Last summer I had a new cotton LLBean Sweater which I went blueberry picking with, bad choice...I thought it was ruined
Vinegar saved the sweater...it works...

Brown streaks on white clothes

McAlpine's picture

All of my white clothes have been coming out of the laundry with brown streaks. Washer & dryer are about 1 year old front loaders. Not sure if marking is from the washer or dryer. Have thoroughly cleaned interiors of both and can find nothing in them that appears to be the culprit.

Stiff washclothes

Guest Ann F's picture

My husband is a vigorous "soaper". His washcloths quickly become stiff with excess soap. I haven't found a solution. regular washing, even soaking hasn't worked. What should I do? I now have a growing collection of washcloths too stiff to put out for use!

vinegar

Lynn's picture

Vinegar dissolves soap residue. I'd give them a good vinegar soak and see how that does. You might also see if you can switch him to a "scrubbie!"

I washed my favorite sweater

Guest 's picture

I washed my favorite sweater with a "Hello my name is" sticker. I noticed the sticker was on the sweater after it had already dried. I then tried Shouted it and put it back in the washer for a second time. All the sticky stuff from the sticker is still on the sweater what should I do?
