GRRRR

I dont like this article this persons opion sucks.that is my opion also that they should read why homeschool works for large familes among other issues that contribute to the social problems in society...maybe those tax dollars.... that are still being wasted on floor wax and other oh so nescessary things for the rich suits pushing the buttons much need to help them decide what is best to feed our kids and teach them and how to invoke fear in us ,not let us for a moment trust our instinct to do what we were genetically created to do...could be put to better uses id say.It would be a better way to gather funds than taking away taxes from families.Or perhaps we could re evaluate the money wasted on say military actions.why not just skip yhe b/s and impose population control and steralize a few million ppl.thats where we are headed with voters like this

Oh, my, my husband and I must be SOOOOOOOO stupid
Jen--
I completely agree with you. I was so mad I could hardly finish reading the article. Of course, I come from a family of eight, so I'm probably just too stupid and disadvantaged to undertand him. That is why I went to college on a National Merit Scholarship and graduated from college Magna Cum Laude. My husband must be even more stupid than I am since he is one of fifteen. That's why my husband worked his way through an MBA program and now has a very professional position as a web master.
Ok, sarcasm aside, what I really can't believe is that this man thinks that people from large families are inherently disadvantaged as opposed to people from small families. There are a hundred ways to be disadvantaged compared to someone else and coming from a large family hardly even ranks in my opinion. Do I sometimes wish that I had had a larger share of the family "pie?" Of course I do. Poor, poor me. Ok, I just can't set the sarcasm aside apparently.

I'm surprised...
that anyone even bothered to publish it. It was very poorly written and the argument itself didn't come across well, regardless of one's feelings on the content.
There's a piece written by Jonathan Swift which appears to quite seriously recommend that children should be eaten - I believe that was the subject matter. Something totally outrageous anyway that nobody could possibly agree with, yet it is very cogently argued to the point where one actually feels oneself thinking, "well, yes, but..." The reason I'm not too sure on the subject matter any more is that it was a piece I read for my A levels, and then had to write a parody of, so I'm not sure whether the subject was mine or Swift's any more! The alternative had something to do with old people being used as fertiliser. One of those is definitely mine.
Way off topic. Anyway, if the writer of that article is an example of the intelligence level one could expect from a 2 child family then I think we should start worrying. And does it mean that I, as an only child must be 4 times more intelligent than my DH who is one of 4?? Interesting... The writer's a twit. No point getting riled.
Kerri.
Kerri, you are right
After I got my sarcasm out of my system and calmed down, I started to wonder if this article was supposed to be a joke--tongue in cheek or something--for the reasons you stated. His argument is poorly experessed and he never really explains how his "study" is so flawless in showing how large families are disadvantaged.

Post a response to the "what
Post a response to the "what did you think of this article" at the bottom of the article if it helps your ire!! At least the publication would have an ideal of popular opinion.
I'd be curious to know which child he is in his family. I'd bet he is #1 of one or two kids. If he were one of several, his siblings would have trounced him by now. As one of 5, I take offense to his article also.
eaten vs. fertilizer
Kerri, the children-being-eaten is Swift's and the old-people-as-fertilizer is yours.
Thanks guys!
You're absolutely right. Once I started thinking about it I couldn't quite drag the details out of the back of my brain. Hate it when that happens! Maybe it's time to turn myself into fertiliser!
Kerri.
It's "A Modest Proposal", btw
And, incidentally, it's called "A Modest Proposal"; copies can be found all over the net, including here.
