"Clean up on aisle 5," would be a reason for a tax increase. Sure, it's a ridiculous concept, but then again, I'm not too thrilled with public education right now either.

There are, of course, such things as food stamps. Also farming subsidies paid for by taxes. It is not such a ridiculous concept.

One's level of agreement with current policies is another matter.
