Clearing Clutter/Liberating Self March 9th
It was time to get a new thread going, the old one was buried down on page six.
Have you got the spring bug yet? The sun is shining here and we've had super weather for a couple of days now. I know it's still going to snow several times before springs is here to stay, but these few days give me a sense of hope.
This morning I am going to purge my closet. This time I am not fooling around with it either. I have many clothing items I've been saving for when I loose some weight. I decided that as I was getting sick of looking at them, I'd probably not feel like wearing them someday anyway. They are good clothes, which is probably why I've been reluctant to part with them. This is the day!!! When I do drop the pounds I will treat myself to a new and wonderful wardrobe. I'm going into the city this afternoon so I can drop a bag off and be rid of it before I can change my mind. I might not have anything left in my closet when I'm done.
For the last few days I've been picking at weird little tasks that have been niggling at me for a long time. I gathered all the loose change from all over the house, and washed it. Sounds kind of obsessive I know, but some of that change had been sitting in buckets for years and was real dusty. One bucket even had a dead moth in it. I now have a pile of it, and will buy some kind of big, decorative glass jug and start a change collection for the grandbabe.
What else? Hhmmm, the regular household chores continue to haunt us don't they. I guess that will never change. I would'nt exactly say my house is company ready, but it's not too bad. A quick Round Robin would fix things if needed.
How about the rest of you? Has spring got you wanting to de-clutter some stuff? It's a good season to set yourself free from some of your *stuff*. Go for it!!!

I was wondering who was going
I was wondering who was going to get energetic and bring our declutter thread back to life. I 'm still not keeping up too good on that front.
I'm in the mood to throw away! I've been doing a small bit at a time in preparation to moving into our new house in a month or so. I'm using dark garbage bags. . .you know, the out of sight out of mind thing. Lots of clothing to get rid of that I know none of us will ever use again. Like you, Hope, its good stuff so its hard to turn loose of it.
Anyway, the story of my life. . .packrat marries packrat and they raise packrat children. I'm trying to break the cycle now, ha.
I'm tryin
I have been spring cleaning and flinging like crazy.
have to work the next few days so I am going to do my kitchen in section a bit every day.
the reason why I am doing this so early and so much is because at the end of the month I am on vacation and so are my DDs and this way we can PLAY!!
Hope I did that with my clothes in the fall and let me tell you I have NOT missed one article of it sooo FLING AWAY
Fern do not move stuff you don't need or want!!!! so good luck on your flinging
Freecycle
I've gotten hooked on freecycling and it's allowing me to discard things more easily than if I were sending them to the thrift store. This morning I put a box of yarn on the porch and it was gone in 10 minutes to a freecycler; another young woman showed up hoping to nab it not long ago; I invited her in and we went through my stash together. She went home with a huge grocery bag full mostly with wool sock yarn I knew I wouldn't use. She was so grateful she's coming back by tonight with a loaf of homemade bread (so she said--if she doesn't that's okay, I just feel lighter for having gotten rid of the yarn I thought I couldn't live without).
If you need an emotional boost for your flinging, I highly recommend freecycling.
Edited to add:
The gal did bring by a lovely loaf of bread last night
Lynn Siprelle, Editor
Neat idea!
Did you come up with that idea Lynn? I've never heard of it. Sounds like a great thing to me. Wish we had something like that here. I'm in the country though so don't know how many would venture out that far.
free stuff
I have for years just put things out at the end of my driveway with a sign FREE
things are usually gone within hours,,,I like this idea because I just don't want the stuff in my house anymore and I don't care if I get money for it[its GONE} If I do give it to charity [which I do TONS} you have to wait for them to come to you ...it could be weeks
HINT,,, do this on garbage day,,we have guys in vans and such that {troll the neighborhood looking for things...I know they probley sell them but who cares ,,its out of my house, more power to them...and usually it does go to someone who can not afford to buy it,,I feel good then
Fun
Morning everyone
.
It is fun to put stuff out and see it vanish
.
I've only done it with leftover garage sale items though.
I was trying to avoid this thread for as long as I could this morning because I did not want to have to come and confesss that I did'nt get anywhere close to my closet yesterday. I have it on my list again today, along with some houseworky chores that need doing.
It was soooo nice out yesterday we were out in the snow in our shirtsleeves. The sun was so warm I had the air conditioning on in the car. Today??? The wind is howling, and I mean howling, and the snow is blowing. A blizzrd of sorts. I really hate the weather at this time of year. It's depressing. I feel like napping.
My paperboy is acting up again. I think I'll have to phone and complain....again. He's taken to tossing my paper on the ground down at the end of the house instead of bringing it up to the door. You just can't do that in a windy climate. I'm constantly picking up blown paper from around the yard and trying to piece it back together so I can read it. An entire section went missing yesterday. GRRRRR
That's it....I'll check back later.
Hellooooooo!
I'm plugging away, it seems as one group/committment/activity eases up on the schedule, another one fills its spot!
I turned in 2 written assignemtns yesterday and have 2 exams tomorrow. Friday I'm presenting (designing, cooking, decorating, etc.) a semi-formal luncheon for six for my "Meal Management" class (must be under $15.00, too). My guests include the secretary for the School of Family and Consumer Sciences AND the secretary to the Dean of the College of Fine and Applies Arts.... What was I thinking?????
Another of my Professors and my sister are also attending.
Today I'm trying to get all my note cards written and review for my second exam in Consumer Education, make progress on the laundry...I need to find SOMETHING to feed to my own family at some point, and I have a meeting at church at 7:00 pm.
Lynn, I love the freecycling idea! I tend to load everything useful up for Good Neighbors and Goodwill. I pass both several times a week going back-and-forth to campus, so its really no trouble!
MIL is really having health "issues," and the rest of us along with her, especially me. I'm beginning to think that I need a consult with her primary care Dr. I know the Dr. can't tell ME anything about MIL, but there are some things I'm not sure that she (the Dr.) knows, either... something's gotta give! (Preferably not my sanity!)
I need to do the "If it doesn't fit-fling" in my closet too. Maybe paring it down will motivate me to keep on track (or treadmill
) with the weight-loss plans!
Must get back to the books and index cards!
Have a great week-all!
Lenora
Freecycling
There's an organisation in Singapore too Lynn - thanks. I might well get on and join that because I have all kinds of odd things.
I missed putting out the dratted recycling bags this morning for the second time, so now I have two large bags taking up space in my kitchen for another fortnight. Maybe there's a higher purpose though. I suppose some of that stuff might just possibly com in handy for next week's "Art Week" that I'm planning for while the kids are on holiday for the week. Still in the planning stages, and I turned into a total zombie the last few days so I'm not sure how well planned it will end up. I did find one exhibition at our art museum which MIGHT be interesting, and I had a brilliant idea this morning (apparently my brain was on auxilliary power whilst diverting main power to this idea!) about where I could park (the museum's caught in the middle of major roadworks) and also take in some extremely good quality galleries along the way (Raffles Hotel has an arcade of VERY high-end shops and galleries, and I'm sure they won't mind us midweek, as long as I don't pick anywhere too cramped with the kids!). So where did that sentence go?? I can also get back to the Met Museum shop which will also provide us with further art experiences, so even if the Museum exhibition (of modern art pieces from the Stedelijk Museum in the Netherlands) is a bust, we'll be able to find something.
Decluttering?? Nope. I'm saving boxes and tissue wrapping papers and all kinds of odd items for this, so I'm up to my eyeballs in temporary clutter. Have to try clearing round the edges though or we'll never have anywhere to actually display anything that gets made. Clever me though (another brainwave!) found a couple of paint and mould kits which my kids can then give the results of to my SIL for her birthday the following week. One less thing for ME to display!
I'm sure I have some stuff round here that could go though. Anyone want a free scanner and printer?? They'd only be free to friends, because DH would hit the roof if I tried 'freecycling' a 14mth old scanner and a perfectly good colour printer!!
Wonder whether I can get some kind of frames together for whatever the kids create...
gotta run - DD comes out of school early on Thursdays which means a total switch in the way I do the school run for the two of them!
Kerri.
Freecycling
There's one in London, too! Thanks, Lynn
Kerri, we have been without a printer for six months since ours packed up! Our scanner doesn't work either! Wish you were just around the corner
Yesterday I did absolutely nothing beyond the bare minimum. I plan to improve on that today, so I'm posting my todos
Clear the table/DS' desk (piled high with books, papers etc)
)
Fold and sort HUGE pile of clothes
Tidy my bedroom (big hotspot)
Errands
Ironing if time (that bedroom is a BIG job
Have a nice day
It is nice to be HERE again......
My mother has left and with that event happening my depression is starting to ease, some. Golly.... you would think that I would learn.

I am woefully behind in correspondence....
but I wanted to say hello. (LoisD... I will be emailing you back!)
Kerri ~ I have hope. A book parcel that I mailed out at the same time that I did yours made its way to London, yesterday. I am hopeful that the book that I sent out will (finally) arrive to you! (One can always hope, anyway....) *grin*
It has been a miserable time of it ~ so I haven't been online, overly.....
doing that introspective thing ~ and avoiding other Internet sites now....
so that I can get caught up in the know, here.
*HUGS* to everyone.
CariAnne
Ever notice..........?
That when I post no one posts after that??

That is why I don't post very often.....
I feel bad that I constantly kill whatever thread I am posting on.
CariAnne
Don't take it personally! :)
This thread often disappears right off the homepage, CariAnne, so it's not you keeping everyone away! I can hardly summon up enough energy to post these days, let alone to do any decluttering.....I think this is the time of year for the blahs.
It's so nice to see you, I hope you're settling in to your new place well. Do you like it better there? Have you done any decorating yet?
I'm having a totally lazy day (yes, another one). Back to the sofa.....
Absent but with you
LOL . Honey is right Cari, this is a hot and cold thread. I often miss posting on Fridays because I go into the city early and spend all day with the grandbabe. By the time I get home I'm *ready* for date night!!!! I just got home, made myself a martini, and thought I'd check on all of you. I have nothing to brag about today because I've not been home. Depending on what DH comes up with for weekend activities I might be a lazy poster till Monday. Maybe not though, he's busy building something in the garage so that might keep him occupied.
I did all the kiddos laundry today while I was at their place. Does that count for effort?? I also did their dishes and cleaned their microwave. Am I not just the best mom
? Baby is alot of fun now, she wants to play hide and seek all day. She thinks if she stands in the corner of the room and puts her face into the corner that I can't see her. It's too humorous.
I sure hope DH wants martinis for supper
. Perhaps I'll just tell him that's what we're having. Just kidding(kinda) we're going to BBQ some hotdogs, he's got a hankering happening.
I must go now, before I get silly. Later gals
.
Come and be my mom!!
PLEASE Hope!!! I'd let you do my ironing!
Cari, I disappear from here all the time too, so please don't keep taking everything so personally. Actually I probably have a stronger track record than you for killing threads, if you were to look at the statistics!
I'm getting nowhere right at the moment as far as the subject of this thread is concerned. Does it count that I'm getting rid of my DD for part of today and overnight??
I'm so damn mean!
I came up with a brilliant new colour scheme for my bedroom, thanks to the church candle in front of me, which is sitting on a gold plate thing with a couple of red velvet hearts propped against it. I have plenty of cream on my walls, so now all I have to do is find a way to accessorise in red and gold and keep it classy, not too tarty! Of course, I come up with inspired colour schemes almost every other week, and never do anything about it. That's how come I have magnolia coloured paint on my walls! I can be so much more daring for the kids' room, but I can't seem to manage for ours.
it's always quiet on these threads over the weekend anyway, so if your habit is generally to post on a Friday it will always look like you killed a thread I suppose! Sorry... grasshopper brain hopped right back to where I started (the term comes from Honey's mother, so I can't take credit, just admit to having one!).
Kerri.
Hi
Kerri, red, cream and gold is lovely. In my flat I painted the hallway cream and red (only a small amount of red) and had gold bits and pieces - a gold bowl for pot pourri and a gold candle plate with pillar candle, both of which I bought from good old Marks and Sparks. It looked jolly nice, if I say so myself
Cari, our house is tiny too. At least we don't have so much housework to do! I really notice the difference between how long it takes to clean my house, and how long it takes to clean my Mum's, which is much bigger.
Well, no decluttering done but I've reorganised the living room. Not from choice though! The puppy chewed through the internet connection thingy, so now we have had to move all the furniture to an arrangement that stops her from reaching any cables. I knew we should have got a goldfish....
Just keeping the thread from
Just keeping the thread from sliding too far...
My house is covered in empty boxes and other unmentionables in aid of 'Art Week'. Remind me again why I'm not on medication for being chronically stupid?? I'm moving a few decorative items around to try and get with the new colour themes. The advantage of silk flowers is that they move from place to place (as long as they get a bit of soap and water every few months) to fit the decor. My bunch of small yellow tulips is now sitting behind my printer (no vase, they're just propped up there, and they might get a toilet tube later to make sure they don't straggle!). In their place, in my bedroom area is a red carnation and some creamy freesias. I know fresh flowers are nice, but I also know I rarely buy them, so I'd rather have silk than none.
I did blitz off the cupboards next to my desk the other night (sometime around midnight!), so it's sort of looking a bit clearer in here. I also have a nice new ironing board cover with sunflowers on a green background, which was the nearest I could find for my office theme of cream with yellow and green and a splash of blue (and maybe some gold). Since the ironing board is part of our bedroom it may as well make itself a bit decorative. The previous over that I loved so much was actually a bit small and was dropping off already.
In my current lethargy I see no chance whatsoever of the ironing getting done, so we'll add that particular pile to a list of the wonders of the modern world - it's no Cheops, but if I leave it another week it could be a serious contender!
lethargy...
Kerri.
Mount Washmore
I have one of those, and a Mount Ironus
Now that I've joined bookcrossing and keep getting books in the post, Mount Toberead is growing, too
Lots to do today! The dog woke me up by whining before 7 this morning (which is better than the alternative. Far better she whines to go out than poops on the floor
) I have laundry in the washing machine already. It's a lovely Spring day so I'm doing blankets - I like the smell when they've been dried outside on the washing line
My room is a complete disaster area, so that's my big job for today. I also have to run some errands, write my menu plan/shopping list and do grocery shopping.
I tidied and cleaned the living room yesterday as we had my brother and his girlfriend coming over. The cleaning was in her honour, not his (he knows how untidy I am!) I want to get some seed and nuts etc hung up in the garden for the birds. There is some litter that has blown into the front garden so that can be a little job for DS12
Onwards and upwards....
Monday!
Hello friends!
CariAnne (and Kerri) personally, I love to see BOTH of you posting! I seem to manage only about one "good" post a week, with maybe a comment or two elsewhere....its definitely TIME and NOT company!
I sent DH off to Kansas early this morning! He should be back late tomorrow/early on Wed. MIL has a hearing (the first) for her "wrongful termination suit" on Wed. It would be nice to hope that her former employer will give her a settlement....
My week shapes up like this:
Today: Volunteer at "The Coming Together Project" 10:00
)
Girl Scouts 3:00
Write a research article summary (glorified book report
Finish clinical reflection for "Diversity in Learners"
Tuesday: Class 8:45-1:30
Study for exam
"Parent-Child Relations" exam 5:30
(DH home????)
Wednesday: MIL's hearing
Research for paper on Multigenerational households
Work on Classroom management portfolio

Thursday: Classes 8:45-1:30
Two sections,(rules/rationales and procedures) due in Classroom Management
5:00 greet contestants in CTP's Dr. MLK Jr. essay/oration contest
6:30 Meeting on campus
Friday: NOTHING!!!!!!!!!
...and Spring Break next week!!!!!
We cleaned the garage thouroughly on Saturday...motivation provided by a break in the weather and a little brown mouse!!! I get to pull that card from my Clean-Sweep list (planned for mid-April) and add another week "off!"
Kerri, I also LOVE cream/red/gold! I'm considering colors for our M-bedroom...the rest of the house is rather traditional (NOT "country") and functional....I'd love to go completely "tarty" in the bedroom!
I'm thinking jewel-tones and velvets and taffetas and silks (think bordello meets harem!
).....probably won't happen, though...until we can move the computer/schoolwork stuff back downstairs...sigh.
Well, I need to get into the shower!
Have a great week, all!
Love,
Lenora
No Monday washday blues here
Morning all
.
I have to say I love everyones paint colors. I also love the tarty bedroom idea Lenora
.
I did all my laundry on the weekend so I have only one load to wash this morning. The new towels I picked up at one of our local bargain stores.
About towels: I finally figured out exactly what DH and I need for drying off, and am slowly going to replace out towel stock.
We live in a household where no one uses the same towel, nor do we use a towel more than once. With our gas and power costing as much as it does all the extra laundry can really drive the bills up. The weather here does not allow for line drying either.
I have never been a fan of ultra thick fluffy towels, which take forever to dry. Nor do we use bath sheets around here. DH would probably like them, but I won't get them unless he learns to hang it up and use it more than once.
We get by quite nicely with ordinary bath towels, lots of tiny hand towels(these are perfect for washing up, I used to think they were useless and now I love them), and a supply of in between sized towels for wrapping my head after I wash my hair(I'm the only one who needs this size. I can even dry off after a shower with a small hand towel, since I'm usually getting dressed right away and don't lounge with a towel wrapped around me.
I'm replacing my towels as they wear out....with all white towels. I don't know why I've waited so long to do that. White towels can be bleached. I love bleaching.
Yesterday I found the head wrapping size towels at a really good price. I bought about six of them and will toss some ratty towels from the linen closet.
What else..let's see....I want to do my floors today. Dishes are already done, I just have to unload the dishwasher. I have a couple of phone calls I should make. That's about it for anything I *have* to do. There's alot more I should do believe me.
Nap??? Yes, it's Monday and a nap sounds good
.
Rebooting my day
(Blush) All I can say to defend myself is that it was the beds fault. It was sooo attractive I could not resist. I just got up and it's 1pm already (blush) .
I did at least get my dishwasher unloaded and the laundry folded and put away before *I* folded. All I really have to do this aft is my floors and my phone calls. I'll have a walk later while I watch Oprah.
Now then....coffee please!!!
White towels
My mother got me some as a wedding present, which should tell you what a wise woman my mother is. When I used up some vouchers last year to buy towels I bought lovely thick white bath sheets. The only reason the kids don't have white is so that they can differentiate their own towels. Actually DS' towels were pinched from the stash at my BIL's house when we left, because we were low on towels at that point. His are mostly white with a design on so they can't be bleached and they show up all disgusting - way past time to replace those. They'll probably be perfect for my SIL to use when she dyes her hair.
I have to get a dark red valance for the bed (I like bright red too, but I'm going to have a mix of bright and crimson I think, an valances are no place for light colours in my household!), and then switch the sheets to the fancy cream brocade sest that my SIL swiped from work for us (her boss okayed it - he was going to let them get thrown out and they are really expensive sets!!!) just n time for DH's return. In April. Sometime. I've certainly got plenty of time to get it together. One other thing I decided I was going to do, and NOT wait for the room to get repainted, although I know it will be soon.... Some time back my eldest BIL's BIL & SIL (from China) came for a vist and they presented us (they knew us already from when we lived in China) with a book of those fancy red papercuts. There are about a half dozen altogether, but I know that some of them are suited to decorating for new marriages, so I won't put those up, which leaves me three circular papercuts of dragons and phoenixes - all in bright red! I bought myself a can of spray adhesive, and it doesn't say don't use it on walls, so...!!!
I'm thinking of lining them up horizontally along a bulkhead we have on one side. The alternative is vertically on the entrance to that part of the room, but they might be a bit disguised by the curtains hanging across the gap.
Sounds like my kids are killing each other in the next room. Perhaps I should get them in here to spatter the blood up the walls!
I have some coins to get to the bank - how come today is the first time I noticed the bit about Hope washing coins?? I just count mine and take them to the bank. They've started charging based on the number of coins, so I took out the 5¢ and 10¢ coins to put in whatever charity box I find appropriate. Makes sense all round. The rest comes to a comfortable $160. Not bad for a small tin.
Better get on and do instead of just talking about it. I think that's the biggest difference between you and I Lenora - you only get on here once a week or so because you're getting on with life. I come here to talk about it and avoid doing it!
Kerri.
all done
YIPPPEEE SKIPPEEE I am done spring cleaning...now all I have to do is get some nice weather!! snowing now
Hope, was Oprah a rerun?? I think it was ,,,bummer
Kerri, did you get the blood wiped up
got to tell you when my kids were younger and I worked alot at night I used to hide the sissors before I left...no joke!!
Snow Day!
Well, we're getting pounded with "winter's last hurrah," I think...the weather-persons are calling for about 10 inches by 10:00 pm!!!
The DDs and I promptly rolled over and all went back to sleep and none of us got out of bed until mid-morning!
I suppose I should take advantage of this time to get some extra housework (read: laundry) done. Not! I think we'll play Uno Attack. DD9 got one for her birthday last month to replace our last one which we wore out!!! Maybe we'll do multiplication Uno (multiply the number down with the one you put down..get it wrong and push the button.....) DD9(third grade) has passed all her facts tests except 12's which is on Friday but we need to work on speed..and flashcards just get boring!
Its a good day!
Lenora
I'm with you Kerri
On the puter and avoiding all household tasks.
Seriously, I am so sidetracked today. You'd be proud of me Cari, I'm painting the wooden handle of my potato masher. A neato abstract design in yellow, lime green and red. I might even put some jewels on it...and some gold or copper foiling.
My DH is going to think I've finally lost my mind entirely.
I'm just cheering for you Killy. All finished your spring cleaning! WOW! Yes, Oprah was a rerun yesterday, but since I had'nt seen it the first time it was new to me. Nice little chapel Russel Crowe built to get married in eh? He's pretty darn intense though. I wonder if he has a sense of humor at all.
Some people might envy my ability to nap at the drop of a hat, but I envy people who can sleep in. I have not slept in(past 8am) since I was a teenager. I average 5 hour sleeps at night, better than the 3 hours I used to do. I dream of getting 8hrs in a go one of these days. DH can lay in bed and doze 14 hours straight if I'd let him(I've witnessed it). Enjoy the snowday and the fact you got to lay in Lenora. You more than anyone need your batteries recharged whenever possible.
Besides my silly painting project I've got a load of laundry done, kitchen cleaned, all upstairs floors swept, had a shower and a long walk on the treadmill, cleaned out the fridge, and made sure the garbage was all collected and to the curb.
This aft? I don't know yet
.
I just don't know
I'm in such a mood these last few days. I seem to be getting a few things done, but I don't feel like I'm accomplishing anything. I feel like I'm wandering aimlessly. Even writing a todo list is not motivating me, I write it down then ignore it. It's not like there's nothing to do believe me.
Today I'm just going to focus on one task at a time. I think I'll clean my desk off here and catch up on my filing. I hope the sun shines today, that always helps my mood.
Tomorrow is DS's birthday. We don't have a gift for him yet. DH is being no help in that department. We're going to stay with the grandbabe tomorrow night so the kids can go out for supper and to a movie. It would be nice to have his gift to take over with us. DS has given instructions to DH and to DIL to let me know he wants me to cook for him this weekend. He's even given them the menu to convey to me. Weird! This from a kid who refused to eat my cooking for six years. I'll do a small grocery shop on Friday for that Saturday event.
I suppose it's time I got off the pot and bought my paint for the house. My SIL, who was tired of listening to me ponder paint colors, made my choice real simple and crystal clear. She asked why on earth I'd go changing the paint color when I was not going to be living here anyway. She suggested just using the same color, which is a nice color(I'm just looking for change), just to freshen things up for sale. It would cover in one coat and I would'nt have to be as fussy with the cutting in. True! The color also goes with all the current furniture and decorative items in the house. Changing colors now would just throw that put together look out the window. So, soft green with a grey base is what it will be. I do plan to change the trim color from white to something different though.
Looking down I can see my keybord needs a good cleaning. There are coffee dribbles on it.
Speaking of coffee....later all

You're creeping me out Hope
We're in EXACTLY the same mood, and I went to that very website yesterday for the same reasons!
the reason I want to change paint colour before we move is so that I can be a bit more experimental without feeling that I'll have to live with it for years!
Kerri.
Better mood today
Morning all
.
I'm over my funk of yesterday. Not because it's past, but because I'm now under pressure to clean the house up before baby comes over on Saturday. I have my to do list for today made up, and I'm already running the laundry and dishwasher. I'm going to wash my hardwood floors today, and will leave the kitchen floor until Saturday since it would be mucked up by then anyway. I'll just ta da later.
We're going into the kids to babysit tonight, so I'm hoping to talk DH into fast food. That will get me out of making supper. He'll go for it for sure if I tell him his option is leftover casserole
.
Tonight I plan to put pressure on DH to get rid of that tv that is still sitting in the basement. I've HAD IT with that tv!!!!
It's time for me to take a walk. Later gals
.
Does anyone else.....
have to hide when they declutter/clean out a closet? If anyone of my kids see me throwing something out (it does not matter if it belongs to them or not) they tell me they want it or take it into their room so half the time i think YES i cleaned out a closet! Only to find all the stuff in their rooms!! So now i play sneaky mom and do it while they are in bed or outside playing (While humming the theme to Mission Impossible). The other day my daughter asked me what was in the bag and i answered her some things for some kids that dont have a lot and as i set the bag down one of her old toys
(a pink bunny that makes a boing noise when you move it) started going crazy!BOING BOING BOING! Thank God DH grabbed her and distracted her before she figured out what it was!!
Anyways I AM GOING TO CLEAN OUT CRAFT CLOSET #1 TODAY!!!!
Have a wonderful day everyone!!
Amee
Seems like a good reason
not to encourage DH to take up a hobby! At least the mahjongg gets played in other people's houses and takes up absolutely no space in mine!
I just bought a tin of gold Hammerite, so I'm gonna do some serious damage with that if I can ever find the time. The early part of this week is OUT. Also just bought a couple of animal print scarves for a couple of dollars for the the kids' room if I ever get it going. I could always throw leopard print into my room - I'm very sure it fits with red, gold and cream, and I could really go tarty!! Wanna join me in the harem Lenora!?!?!
I have solid grey shelf brackets to paint, maybe some bookends, and possibly even a couple of plain wooden picture frames. The thing I LOVE about Hammerite is that you don't need to fuss over primer or any of the rest of that nonsense, and the Hammered surface is perfect for the imperfect, lazy technique I use to apply paint! I'm not even sure I'll be taking the shelves off the walls (my father would be shocked! - tough!). I need minimum fuss paint or I'll never bother doing anything with it!
It occurred to me that i could rag over the top of my magnolia walls in a darker, perhaps taupey kind of colour, something with a tint of gold in it even, and I would be able to cover up the worst of the dirt, thus saving myself... something I'm sure.
??:
IKEA on Wednesday...
Talk about doing some serious damage. And my SIL wants yet another bookshelf. She hasn't understood yet that she can get all the bookshelves she wants, but she's still going to fill them to overflowing and her room will still look like an elephant's toilet. If she wants me to carry it though she'd better make up her mind to have the small one!
I'm thinking of getting one of those huge paper shades and then dumping it in a weakish solution of tea... I have a large useless hook in my bedroom ceiling which was probably used for a baby sling for the previous owners (sling and large spring to bounce baby) and I thought maybe I could make it into a feature, without bothering to have a light inside it... just as a feature. So many brilliant ideas, yet how many of them will I everreally get round to?? Even buying the Hammerite doesn't guarantee I'll use it!
Kerri.
not my idea but who cares! it works!
Just today I've gotten rid of two big boxes of yarn I don't want and I did something I never thought I'd do: I gave away all my back issues of Martha Stewart Living and Sunset. They just left with someone I actually knew! You'd be surprised what people would be willing to do for something free.

Me too
I am so in love with Freecycling! I just unloaded tons of clothing that will be going to people in the Higlands of Mexico (they are apparantly "small people" and since I'm under 5 feet, I was able to help LOL). It's just such a great way to "purge and cleanse".
I love Freecycling!
I joined up with the Las Vegas chapter in October and just think it is a GREAT way to clean out your closets and the like. (VERY motivational!)
I felt really good that I had been able to put up an offer on Freecycling for a 6 foot tall Christmas Tree (still in the box!) at the start of last December. We had purchased a smaller, lit tree (in our continuing effort to down size and scale way down....) so I felt that we didn't need two trees.
I put up the email and within the hour I had a response. The next morning the gals boyfriend came to the door with a thank you note from her. (He had picked up the tree the night before....) Her card had said that she lacked the money for a Christmas Tree so she and her kids were going to be going without one..... and then she saw my email post.
BOY did I ever feel GREAT!!
I love freecycling!!
(And hello, everyone!)
*grin*
CariAnne
WHEW!
Thanks Honey......
LOL
I was, actually, very worried about that.
Things are good, here... thanks.
No decorating, yet... but a lot of organizing is going on.
We still have a whole bunch to get rid of ~ this place is *very* tiny.
You sound like you deserve a break with all of the painting and handiwork going on over there, anyway!! How is all else in your neck of the woods?
Rest Up and thanks for the assurances that it is not me.
LOL
It sure felt like it was.....
Love,

Lord, Honey.....
Whatever you do stay off the forums at BX'ing! *eyes roll*

Hi Amee
I don't have any kids at home unless we want to count DH.
Yes, I do have to hide my de-cluttering from him. If I sneek his ratty old shirts out one at a time when he's not looking I can get rid of them without his ever noticing. If I ask him about tossing one of them....never could he let go of them.
He's been hanging on to a broken old console tv for over ten years now. It's sitting in the rumpus room taking up space and he won't part with it. Unfortunately it's too big and heavy for me to deal with, and I do think he'd notice if it went missing.
I'm keeping busy right now de-cluttering my own stuff and hoping it will rub off on him.
stuff
Amee ,,when my DDs do their spring cleaning of their rooms they always find "STUFF" that they forgot they had. My DD13 hates to be by herself but for a few days after she cleans her room she sits in it [alone] and looks around admiring her work. Then after a few days there she is back to sitting on ME all the time.
My DH has shirts from high school [out since 77] and I can prove it because we have pictures . One time DD said hehhh theres that shirt Daddy has,,,,boy is it olddddd. He also has books from college..math books...like you could sit down and have a 'good 'read.
I have tons of crafts and collections BUTTTT at least mine are displayed nicely and the crafts are organized on shelves and in boxes.
Hope, I know you will have a great time with the little ones
thank you for replying
Kitty- i never got to that craft closet, some family stuff came up.
i have gone through some baskets and organized those so at least i can fit more stuff in but i think ( i know ) i need more basket/boxes for fabric and such! You know now that i think about it my DD4 will play in her room by herself forever when its been decluttered!
Hope- My DH throws everything away!! I've had to dig through the trash looking for a picture of my grandparents first married! The only one i have of them when they where young. So now the rule is he
puts stuff in piles so i can go trough it!But god forbid i throw away one of his fishing magazines! I mean how many times can you read about one LURE?
Have a wonderful day!
Something...anything!!
If only I could convince DH to toss. I chuckled over the fishing magazines,I have golf magazines to live with.
I did not do a heck of alot yesterday other than nurse a nasty headache. I have to go on a grocery run today, so have no plans so far other than that.
I'll try and checkin with you gals later. I might just run a 27 Fling today
