Do You Boobah?

Submitted by Shaun on Tue, 03/09/2004 - 5:30am.

Have you seen the latest show from the creators of the Teletubbies? We've been sick around here lately, so yesterday morning we indulged.

It is the weirdest dang thing I have ever seen! Not that I have ever done hallucinogenic drugs (I tried once, but the tab was blank, thankfully!), but I think they would be a good match for the show!

Also, as DD and I noted separately, the Boobahs appear to be propelled around the world by posterior breezes (also known as "toots" in our home).

I implore you, watch Boohbah on PBS and see if it is not absolutely nuts!

And here is a link to the website which, I'm glad to see, explains that the show actually has a philosophy behind the insanity.

We BooBah!!

Submitted by Shannon Jean on Tue, 03/09/2004 - 8:16am.

We were visiting friends and the wiggles weren't on so we happened upon these strange things that seemed to mezmerize my 19mos dd. She was so taken by them that now we watch every day. She can even say their name! Its much better than the teletubbies (that drives me nuts)and the bonus is that Barney comes on after which puts a nice ending to our tv time.

We love Boobah! Fiona even

Submitted by Kitty Mc on Tue, 03/09/2004 - 12:27pm.

We love Boobah!

Fiona even calls herself "Fee-bah" and dances around when the show comes on. It's the only thing (other than people) that the guys have laughed out loud at while watching. I think it's the funniest show on TV. Well, not that I watch that much TV anyway. You probably don't want to know what I think the boobahs look like, but every time I see them I crack up laughing thinking about it.

On the other hand...is it just me, or is Grandpapa kind of....creepy? And my husband and I think that Auntie must be the black sheep of the family because we've only seen her once. Smiling

wild

I came upon this show one day and had to stop and watch and see what this wild show was. I actually think its a cute show.

I think children will like it because it has so much repetition in it. Kids somehow like to see the same thing over and over again.

Its also very colorful

Boo for Boobah

Public Television is distributin a children's television show
called `Boobah'.
You can see information at this web site :
http://pbskids.org/boohbah/boohbah.html
Be sure to have your speakers turned up so that you can easily make out the sounds of flatulence that accompany the multi-colored `Boobah' creatures.
The creator of the show says that the sounds that are used on the show were chosen to represent sounds of anxiety relief. What they sound like are the sounds of escaping gas followed by the sound of a heavy object being dropped into water.
The attention to these anal sounds are not the worst part however. Each of the creatures themselves, when resting in their `nests', appear to be a large clitoris. When they are excited they stand up with arms and hands extended and their heads take on
the aspect of a pre-pubescent penis.
Many professionals have already come forward and stated that the show teaches nothing.
The creator and distributor of the program insists that they are using `patterns' in order to teach. The story is stretched quite far. In one episode called `Painting the Fence', a Chinese woman appears before a long red fence. She then uses a huge bucket
of yellow paint to paint the red fence yellow.
This show appears to have been created to break into the mainland Chinese television market (communists) and somehow has ended up on American, British and Australian television.
You have to see it to believe it.
PBS Schedule page is at : http://www.pbs.org/tvschedules/
Enter your zip code and look up `Boobah'.
I believe that any public funds provided to that show should be cut off immediately.
The show is an insult to Sesame Street, Mister Rogers and other professionally produced children's programming.
Anyone that exposes their children to that show is either not paying attention or is a pervert.
Boo! For `Boobah'.

uh...

There are a LOT of British/Canadian Chinese out there (Hong Kong, anyone?), not to mention American Chinese. Breaking into the communist Chinese TV market, that's a stretch, especially since as noted further up "Auntie" (the Chinese woman) rarely appears. And whoever's seeing penises and clitorises in a children's show--dude, check your meds.

Note that we do not Boobah. I could not care less about it. But playing a race card and accusing public television of promoting sex in toddlers (to what end?!)--again, dude, check your meds.

LOL!

Shaun, Chance (who will be three in Sept) absolutely LOVES this show. I think it's the stupidest thing in the world, because it really doesn't teach hardly anything at all. BUT, I have to admit, the pattern thing is there. He knows exactly what is coming up next before they do it and does it before them. DH and I just died watching it with all the fart sounds.

Yep, my son is watching all sorts of things I was able to keep the other kids from watching. Things I said "I'll never let them watch this!!". Barney and Teletubbies. LOL! I am pleased though that he really likes Mister Rogers. Chance thinks he is really talking to him and tries to talk back (he is delayed in his speech and still doesn't say much but gibberish)

Chance is a very strong willed child (VERY!!!). He is just total opposites of my other children. I've always been able to put the girls to their own beds and they stayed there. Not him. He won't go to bed until I go, in my bed. And just to prove how bad a parent I really am, I just set the sleep timer on the TV to go off at midnight. Sometimes he falls asleep before then. The nightly lineup on PBSKids is Barney, Mister Rogers, Teletubbies, then Boobah. It puts him to sleep and it's not bad. So I'm not complaining. But man, those farting things are stupid! LOL!

Saw them once

We were staying in a motel. I thought I would go *bonkers* with the repetition. It's really weird! We never did get PBS, and the only time the kids ever watched it was at my mom's.

I guess the word that comes to mind is "why"? Laughing out loud What a strange way to fill a half-hour.

my embarrassing secret

Not secret any more-- I watch this show, all on my own, because it's pretty. I like the sparkly colors. That's the whole reason. But since we don't get television, I only watch it when travelling.
