Flybabies March 8th

Submitted by Andrea on Mon, 03/08/2004 - 5:47am
Rise and shine everyone! Here is our new thread ...
I'm off to do my weekly shopping with DD - my new plan of shopping early in the morning on Monday. Then I have quite a long PODA, including a trip to the city.
Susannah, yes we will miss you - but I do understand. It is easier to get stuff done without the distraction of the computer - and I would guess that all of the issues here lately have been somewhat stressful! Hope to see you back again soon!

Mini Tada ~
The dishes are done.
Sink is clean.
Bathroom was cleaned.
I baked two loaves of whole-wheat bread.
Did a lot of vegan cookbook reading/drafting.
And...
I started drafting a menu plan for the family. We are making the switch to veganism. (I had been a vegetarian for over 9 years when I gave it up ~ I still have no clue why.) Doctors have found for it to be within my best interest if I go the route of the vegan ~ so here we go, again.
That is the end of my tada.....

A small one ~ but it is there.
Live as if your were to die tomorrow.
Learn as if you were to live forever.

I'm Baaaaack....
Well, the past few weeks have been something else! DD has now recovered nicely from her tonsil surgery. It's amazing how much more room she has in the back of her throat now. No wonder she had problems swallowing & with apnea!
It's a sunny morning here in Alabama & I woke up to a clean house! Yipee! DH and DD went to the inlaws and I cleaned like mad for 2 1/2 hours. I know, I know, Flylady wouldn't approve. I consider it my crisis cleaning for a while. The house had gotten soooo bad.
Well, today I work at my office for 5 hours, so it's not a "big" day fly-ing wise:
* Laundry (already working on this one)
* Make grocery list for tomorrow
* Keep things picked up & enjoy a semi-clean house for one more day
I guess I'd better go; DD is sure quiet in her playroom!
Vonnie
P.S. Susannah, I'll miss you, but I understand
Life just stays busy
No posting for me over the weekend...I was too busy writing code every hour I could stay awake (and, I think, some of the ones when I was sleeping). But I just sent off a reasonably finished application and a nice four-figure invoice, so it was worth the effort.
PODA:
- Feed critters (done!)
- Dishes, diapers, dinner (the usual 3D's)
- Straighten enough to vacuum in the office
- Write book chapter
- Review book chapter from co-author
- Tech edit chapter from another book
That's all I can reasonably cram in, and I suspect it will all go out the window anyhow; DD1 1/2 went up to 103.7 last night, her breathing is pretty labored at the moment, and I expect we'll be making a doctor visit some time today.
Susannah, good luck getting things in order. We'll expect a full report when you come back
Good Afternoon! TADA: ban

Went to Wild Oats. Haven't been in for quite sometime. They had some good deals on produce so got some things there. Then a Trader Joe's recently opened in the same plaza so we checked that out as well. Pretty neat, especially all the freebies to try in the back of the store! If I came around lunchtime,I wouldn't have had to make anything for DD when we got home!!!LOL...
Neighbor kid needs a place to stay after school while his mom runs up to the high school regarding the senior play so he will be here with us. It snowed today so DS and he will probably sled outside anyway.
Gonna try a rice and bean casserole and salad with fruit, nuts, and cheese tossed in...inspired by my trip to the healthy grocer's today, can't you tell???
Have a good rest of the day.
Heidi
Susannah
I'll miss you too! But I totally understand why you are doing it. I've spent more time here last week than in the past few, and I sure can tell it. I need to spend MUCH LESS time here myself. Especially on other heated threads. I feel I'm much in the minority here when it comes to issues like that, and as a result, a bit bashed and downright angry.
Chance did well the last trip we took (10 hours to Arizona), so I think we will be ok on the trip to ABQ. We won't take the camper, though.
I got the living room/dining room vacuumed and picked up. Had to go to town to take Chance's jersey and shorts to the embroiderer to be fixed, ordered me a denim shirt with school logo too.
Ya'll have a great day!
I'll miss you Susannah!
Looking forward to you return.
We had a super productive night, so I have a really organized house today! Yeah!

Just joined
Well, I went ahead and joined flyladies. It seems very strait forward. Mostly getting into a routine. I have a bit of a routine established, but I'm going to try and get a better one going. I need to remember to brush the babies teeth in the morning. I need to keep up on the dishes during the day. (I normally just wash them once a day, and let them stack otherwise.) I did pretty good at that today, and my hubby told my daughter (when he didn't know I was listening) "Your mom is preety neat." So I take it that he was pleased. I need to spend more time with Angel and her reading. She's really behind, and I need to do Hooked on Phonics with her, but keep procrastinating it.
I need to get dressed in the mornings (I'm lazy about that) and I need to take better care of myself (see New You). But today I made up myself a schedule. It's very flexible, cause, frankly, I have a 2 year old and a 1 year old, and I'm married to a redneck! I have to be flexible. And I'm trying to do the morning and evening routines that flylady says I should do. So - wish me luck!
Hello Ladies
Hello Ladies (and gentleman):
Nothing much to report -- I've been sitting on the church property while the excavation is going on. Luckily, no artifacts have been unearthed.
CariAnn, how is the visit with your mother?
Vonnie, glad to hear your DD is recovering well after her surgery.
Mike, I don't know how you keep up that pace! You put me to shame.
Sounds like most everyone is doing ok. We'll all be missing Susannah, that's for sure.
After my mother passed away last fall, I found a letter from a member of her birth family. She had been adopted at about age 12 during the depression because her birth family couldn't support all the children. She had been very ill as a child, and I'm sure that letting her go to live with a childless doctor and his wife is what saved her life and allowed her to grow up. Anyway, I had written to her brother to let him know she had passed away. A few months went by, and today I got a letter from the brother's daughter -- a cousin I never knew I had. The brother had been thinking about my mother and regretting that he hadn't had the chance to see her again. The daughter said he's very old now and ill, and he's been asking her to write me and see if I'll send some photos of her, since he hasn't seen her in so long. It brought tears to my eyes. I'll see if I can find some photos to send and get a letter off in a day or two. So you ladies keep after me and nag me until I do it!!
Schedule subject to interruption...
...by sick kidlet. Visit to the doctor yesterday as I expected; DD1 1/2 does have an ear infection and we've got her on Zithromax. She's mostly sleeping. The next question is which kid is going to Texas with Dana tomorrow morning.
Meanwhile, Tada:
- Fed critters
- Washed diapers, cooked dinner (DW did the dishes for me)
- Wrote book chapter
- Review book chapter from co-author
- Took DD to doctor
- Wrote a book proposal
- Did some weeding
- Shoveled chicken poop
SLUG:
- Straighten enough to vacuum in the office
- Tech edit chapter from another book
PODA:
- Feed critters (some time after the sun comes up; DS3 got me up at 4AM)
- Glue down ripped-up carpet squares in office ("Daddy, I was just looking for bugs")
- Dinner, Dishes, Diapers
- Burn some trash
- Plant herbs in greenhouse
- Weeding
- More henhouse cleanup
- Write newsletter
- Get to bed at a reasonable hour so we can all get up at oh-dark-thirty tomorrow
We'll see how I feel about this list as the day goes on...probably there's a nap in my future too.
Good Morning! Welcome Mind
Good Morning!
Welcome Mindymonster. You appear to have alot on your plate so the routines will come in handy to establish some control. Good luck.
Mike-sorry about the ear infection but at least it's being taken care of. What herbs are you planting? I am going to try a windowbox in my kitchen with some rosemary, thyme, oregano, and basil, maybe some peppermint for my teas.
Lois-Wow,what a story! gather the photos up and send them off(that's my nag). If there are some you don't want to part with you can always have them copied and send the copies. Keep contact with that cousin,is she close enough to visit?

Hello!
Oh, my gosh. I just read the list of posters, and I feel like I'm "back home"! I don't know if you remember me, VONNIE IT'S SO GOOD TO READ A POST FROM YOU!
but I need to get back in the swing of things big time. I need to loose weight and really attack my house. Our lives are a bit upside down right now, and I just need some peace. Good morning!

We'll all miss you Susannah! Hurry back!
Well I feel like I might be getting back on track. (knock on wood) Yesterday I got my kitchen cleaner than it's been in months. My living room, and family room are both clean. DH helped me in the master bedroom (that's a big deal! maybe the first time I've ever seen him clean
)
I still need to do some major work in the classroom but I've been saying that for what 2 or 3 years now!
DS18 and DC17 both worked in there room this weekend, it looks pretty good.
DS5's room's another story! I'll need to rent some heavy machinery for that room.
Today PODA
laundry
5 min. room rescues in the classroom, as many as I can do
exterminator is coming this morning
work in the back yard a bit
That's about it, for today.
Mindy, (is it ok to call you mindy?) good luck with flylady, works pretty well as long as you keep on top of it.
Mike, I hope DD is better soon, and Danna has a nice trip to Texas.
Lois, that's a neat story about your mothers family. Have you ever met them, or do you plan to?
Heidi, how was the casserole?
Wondering how all the other pregnant flybabies are doing? If you guys are lurking, please check in.
See you guys later.
Jamie Lea
Karen, I just missed your pos
Karen, I just missed your post!! How's the new house. (or maybe not so new anymore
)
How are the kids?
Good to see you posting again.
Jamie Lea
Good Afternoon! Welcome Ho
Good Afternoon!
Welcome Home,Karin! Nice to "see" you again.
Jamielea- The casserole was good, the kids weren't too pleased with it though. I added some shrimp in as well and lots of cumin. That's probably why they didn't enjoy it as much as DH and me.
Haven't gone to the post office or gas station yet but do have laundry going, cat box scooped out, and DD and I and the dog played outside in the snow.
It is about time to fix lunch, switch the laundry around and then put DD down for her nap. If time allows before DS comes home from school, we will tackle those errands, otherwise tomorrow since they aren't high priority.
Later All.
Heidi
welcome back Karin
I remember you ...welcome back
Mindy when you child is learning to read kill two birds with one stone and have her sit in the kitchen with you and read to you as you do the dishes. I did that with DD[now16] and she read chapter books in first grade. Even if they can't read for real they can "Tell" the story their way. This will also get them interested in the real thing. Good mommy time.
Welcome Back, Karin!!!
I was just thinking about you this past weekend - must have been ESP!! I don't have time to make a long post right now, but I finally had a GREAT day today! Got all bills caught up while DD was at preschool & we have money left! Woohoo! Took DD to Pizza Hut buffet for lunch & she was great and ate good. Made a Target run & got a few items I've been needing. And DD came home & took a 2 hour nap! I was able to sip coffee and read a book I bought. She's up now & in a great mood. And I haven't had so much as a voice mail message from work today, so that has been stress-free.
Tonight I have dinner with my best friend since kindergarten! We are celebrating our birthdays (Jan & Feb, so we're late!). It'll be nice to get to visit without 4 year old interruptions! Poor DH, though, he will have DD at home.
Well, I guess I'd better go. Time for DH to get home & I need to figure out what they're going to eat for dinner!
Talk to you all later!
Vonnie
Hi Karin!
Hello! I am not doing much at home today because I have been gone all day, and will continue to be until tonight. Same tomorrow. Very tiring.
O/T: I have noticed that everyone seems to feel in the minority on hot-button threads. I take this as a sign that TNH must be well-balanced ("a good compromise leaves everyone mad").
Afternoon
Slug:
everything that was on my PODA
(but I did get some good quality time with DS5)
As far as the "hot-button" issues, I hope the flybabie thread stays "hot-button" issue free
See you guys tomorrow, unless we're discussing "hot-button" issues
Welcome Back!
Hey Karin, glad to have you back!
And Welcome to Mindymonster! I haven't tried HOP, but I (and Susannah has too, I'll speak for her since she is taking a TNH break) use Teach Your Child To Read in 100 Easy Lessons. My oldest was reading before she started Kindergarten, and we are using it on dd4 (will be 5 in June).
I've been running around the past two days. Got Chance's uniform (it's so cute!!!), shirts for the cheerleaders, and a shirt embroidered for me. Went to pep rally at school, picked up girl scout cookies in town, got cokes at Sonic. Back to the school to drop off shirts. We decided to come home after the game tomorrow, which will put us home about 2am. Then I'm going to sub Thursday at school. Whew! LOL! Oh, guess I need to do my school news column for the paper before we leave tomorrow. We are going to follow the cheerleaders, the boys left after school today.
Adios!
Everyone's Been Busy!
Except me. In the house anyway. We have a huge musical at school Thursday and DS12 has a big part, so that has pretty much consumed our lives for now.

I will do my mini weekly blessing tomorrow if it kills me! I hate it when the weekend rolls around and I am faced with mountains of mess. Makes for a crabby Mommy, big time!
The boys continue to boil, 2 gallons of syrup so far. The best dark, flavorful kind. Mike, if you do get the bees, I'll trade you syrup for honey!
Have a great night everyone!

Hot Button Issue
Here's a Hot Button Issue for Flybabies
What's the best washing machine? I am getting a new one, and will be checking out a Kenmore I used on vacation. Does anyone love their washer? What kind is it? I've never bought one because DH got ours used 15 years ago, and it's lasted...I don't even know what to look for other then that Kenmore could hold WAY more clothes than mine, and it got them really dry, even before they went into the dryer, which will be a big savings on the propane bill.
So what do you think? Suggestions please!
Tuesday
Well, I did pretty good today. I got dressed, put my hair neatly up, etc. I kept the kitchen clean, which is a big Ta Da for me. I hate cleaning the kitchen. I didn't get any vacuuming done, but other than that I kept the house neat. I read with Beth this evening before I put her to bed, and I helped Angel with her homework. Plus we did the hooked on phonics. (The reason I do HOP is because it was free - my mom gave it to me.) And I do let her tell me stories, I always have. I read somewhere that it was good for kids to just look at the pictures and tell the story. Also, I only have to read her a story once or twice and she knows it well enough to tell it to me. Not word for word, but she gets the general idea.
As for calling me Mindy, feel free. I don't care, if I did, I wouldn't have called myself mindymonster!
Good Morning! Way to go Mi

Jane Eyre is really something else. Even though it was written so very long ago,it has relevance today. When I finish it I want to see the movie.
A friend has her Barbie Dreamhouse complete with all the furniture and accessories that you were able to get with it back then. She has offered it to me for DD. What do you all think would be a fair price?
If too much, then we will pass on it.
DS did some homework at a friend's house down the street yesterday. This friend has similar reading issues as my son and is in the same group with him at school. so got to bounce ideas around with her mom. Good to have as many supports/resources as possible. The more people I talk to about reading disabilities, the more i find out that they or someone they know is dyslexic as well. Interesting...
Well, better get moving here.
Have a wonderful day you all.

Two Good Days in Row Don't Happen!
I knew that when we had such a good day yesterday, it wouldn't last! DD woke up with intent to be impossible on her mind! She has been a holy terror all morning. I don't think she slept well last night & hence, she is in some kind of mood today. I fear when she gets to be a teenager!
I think I'm going to call her the stalker. She literally stalks me some days! She can be sitting in front of the t.v. watching Blues Clues (OK, yes, I DO let her watch that & Dora every morning! That's the only time I can have my devotions and quiet time.), and if I very quietly - no shoes, just socks - slip down the hallway, HERE SHE COMES! I wonder some days how long it will be before I can go to the bathroom alone at home. I actually relish going to the bathroom at work because I get to go without an audience! So, my child has built-in radar of some type. She'll use it when she's a teenager to disappear when housework needs to be done!!!
So, after two paragraphs of ranting (though I did it with a grin - or is it chagrin? - on my face), here's today's outlook:
* Make list of couple of things I need to pick up at the grocery
* Get a newspaper for the grocery sales ads
* Revise my flychart plan - AGAIN!
* Update checkbook - I've got to stay on top of this one! When I did it yesterday in order to pay bills, I had to record 3 1/2 weeks of checks & debit transactions!
* Find the CD that has the "cleanup" song it to order
* Read in my book - yes, I am finally able to read a little here & there
* Take DD to AWANAs tonight
Well, I guess that's about it for now. After my crisis cleaning on Sunday afternoon, I've managed to keep the house somewhat picked up to avoid it getting THAT bad again anytime soon. I think we're going to invite another couple over to cookout on Saturday evening. Having company definitely helps me to keep my house cleaner!
Have a good one; I'm going to check & see if anyone's chatting today.

Better get dinner ideas going before the late afternoon rush.

No PODA today; it's after noon and I just finished going through the overnight e-mail. That's because the morning was taken up with taking DW and DD1 1/2 to the airport; they're off to Texas for two weeks. Then DS3 and I went grocery shopping. So it's been a reasonably productive day already. Rest of the day probably goes for a bit of writing, maybe a bit of yard work, and trying to get reorganized.
Heidi, I put in two kinds of parsley, chives, two kinds of basil -- all in hanging planters in the greenhouse. I'll do larger plantings a bit later in the spring (I hope - assuming I keep managing to steal enough time to work on garden at all).
Welcome back, Karin.
all kids follow their parents into the bathroom
And when I used to babysit, the kids wanted to follow ME in there too. It's the stereotypical moms' complaint--"I never get to go to the bathroom alone!"
My cats do it too, by the way.
Jo, I had a front-loading washer (rented w/ the flat) in England and loved it. I don't know what brand it was though, and they are expensive.
I have a poda but don't feel like posting it.

Hi everyone!
Hi all!
Heidi, not AWOL, just busy.
Just returned a while ago from a STRESSFUL Tiger Cub meeting - some of the boys don't have the greatest behavior - makes it difficult. I'm working an extra half-day this week and can feel it. I am so glad I only work PT! I work tomorrow and then off Friday - no school for kids so we should do something maybe. We are going to Peter Rabbit Friday nite and it is girls' day on Saturday - DD5 and I are seeing Miss Nelson is Missing with another Mom and DD. Should be fun!
Oh and book club tomorrow - yikes!
HI to everyone! I've heard those front loaders are really cool - Jo, if you can afford it maybe you should get one of those fancy washers - you will be using it every day for 15 years or more hopefully! Clean clothes are important!
Glad you're hanging in there Mike! Wasn't Dana going to TX or something? I think we all just need to get to spring to make things better. We have another weather "event" happening on Monday here in WNY and I'm not looking forward to it!
OK, I need to run - Hi to everyone else! Vonnie, hope DD can give you some privacy! Hi Becky!
Andrea
Wednesday
I didn't do as well today. For one thing Daniel was being clingy today. It's hard to get housework done with a clingy, 23 lb, one year old on one hip. Plus I completely forgot to take my meds yesterday, so I was wiped. I felt half asleep all day. I didn't even manage to get Angel on the bus to school, cause I didn't have the energy to walk to the bus stop. Lord, I hate Crohns Disease, and I hate being sick, and I hate taking meds. (Man, my attitude sucks today!) But I did keep my kitchen clean, and I did manage to keep the kids from totalling the house.
As to washers, I've never gotten a choice in which one I buy, I've always gotten them second hand. But if I did I would go with a front loader. They get your clothes waaaay cleaner, and you can put more clothes in them. Plus, I've heard that they wring out your clothes better, so they don't have to be in the dryer as long.
If you're working on a budget, though, I'd check the local classifieds. There are always people selling second hand washer and dyers for pretty cheap. I got mine for $150, for both. And they were only 2 years old.
Jo - the front loaders lock when they are full of water, and they're sealed really well, so nothing gets out.
Well, I'll talk to you all later!
quick hi
I am lurking b/c I can hardly keep up w/ postings these days, but had to say hi to Karin!! Welcome back!
Also, a plug for the front-loading washers. We got ours at Sears, a Kenmore, and it is great!
Uses less water, less energy, is gentler to your clothes, and gets them cleaner. You pay a bit more up front but you certainly make it back. No special detergent required, at least not for ours. And it's true about the spin cycle -- you can really spin the heck out of them and get lots of the water out. We do an extra spin cycle with things like towels and diapers and it really helps.
You can usually put bigger loads and bigger things in a front loader too, compared to the average top loader. Good for comforters, sleeping bags, etc.
And they don't get unbalanced quite so easily.
Gee, I didn't realize how grateful I should be for my washer!

tired
We got in at 1am. I am so tired! Put up with 12 3-5 year olds all day, I need a nap! LOL! But can't, DH will be here soon with the other two. I think early bedtimes tonight!
That is all from me today.
Oh, except my washer. Kenmore from Sears in October 1996. Never had a problem. Super Capacity. Not 16 pairs of jeans big, but big enough that I'm not doing laundry every day (every other day! LOL!).
I want a washer!
I am sick of having to get quarters all the time, but our apartment doesn't have a washer hook-up.
I got a coupon for grocery delivery because the strike is over at last. I need to do some kind of picking up around the living room-- starting to lose things!
Thursday
Well, I did a bit better today.
Ta Da
kept the kitchen clean
got nearly caught up on laundry,
changed the sheets
did my morning routine
The house was pretty messy this evening, but I swept about and picked up a bit. At least when I get up in the middle of the night I won't trip on anything.
I love my washer, even if it isn't a front loader. When I got it I had just moved from an apartment complex that also didn't have a washer and dryer. We were spending about $30 a week washing clothes. And then a lady at my bank asked if we wanted to buy hers for $150. I was all, yeah! But having to go to the laundromat every weekend for 2 years makes you really appreciate having your own washer and dryer.
Heidi - been there done that. We used to have ducks. And they would show up at my house at 5 am, and quack until I fed them. Once my hubby got really mad and was gonna shoot the ducks. At 5 in the morning! We were living next door to my grandma, and he probably would have given her a heart attack! So when he asked where his bullets where I just shrugged and said "I dunno". (I knew, but I wasn't telling!) Anyway, it was funny. If he'd shot one of those ducks he'd ahve made duck splatter. LOL I'm so glad that God made me a woman. Men are such illogical creatures. ;D
Anyway, I'll talk to you all later.

Gonna brag about my kid....DS got his state test scores back and is in the 88.9% as a combined avergage in all subject areas. Soooo proud of him since he struggles so hard with his dyslexia.
Got 4 inches of snow dumped on us last night. Ugh! Then it's supposed to be close to 50 over the weekend.
Didn't get a chance to look for the goose nest and now everything is buried in snow so will wait til it melts to look again.
Hope you guys have a wonderful day.
see ya later.

Morning
Hi everyone!
That's great about your son Heidi! He is really doing well! No - book club was not at my house, thank God! We read "I don't Know How She Does It" good book, very funny! - has anyone read it? We had some good discussion about staying home vs. working. One of our members is an attorney and due in late May - she's planning on taking only 8 weeks off and seems to be really struggling with it.
Hope you can rest up Jenny!
Hi to everyone else!
Well, so far I've exercised and showered, had my shake, emptied DW. I have a PODA today which including mopping the kitchen. No school for DS7 today so we may do some sort of outing.
Andrea
Good Morning
Lois, way to go on getting those pictures sent off. I'm the worst at sending pictures, takes me forever.
Heidi, Congratulations on your DS's scores. That's great
Jenny, glad your home safe and hope you were able to get some rest.
Didn't get a chance to post yesterday so here's my TADA from yesterday.
TADA
completed Morning routine
2 loads laundry, washed, dried, put away
de-cluttered pantry
spiffied kitchen, LR, and Family room
ironed 4 shirts for DH
homeschooled
made a few calls I've been putting off
Today is DS18 and DC17's last day of school, spring break starts next week.
Soooo, today's also mine and DS5's last day of homeschooling and we'll be taking spring break off as well.
We've got a busy weekend ahead of us. We've got a parent meeting for DS5's soccer team in the morning, DH is coaching again this season and all but one child is returning from last season. Then we've leaving for Texas A & M (about 3 hours away) to see DS18 perform at NJROTC competition. Sunday DH and I will probably celebrate our anniversary, it's actually on Monday but that wont work very well. I've always wanted to eat at the Tower of America (Andrea did you ever eat there when you were here??) but I'm a little scared. We'll see.
Well DS is ready to get in the classroom. No he's not always that excited, but he started a project yesterday that he wants to finish.
Hope you all have a great weekend.
Jamie Lea
Back to the grindstone
After two days of being out and about, it's time to try to get a few things done around here. PODA:
- Dinner, dishes, diapers
- Feed critters (done!)
- Water in greenhouse (done!)
- Burn trash (done!)
- Rearrange furniture to move big bookshelf out of bedroom-to-be
- Author review on two chapters
- Write some code
Having a moderately trying time with DS3. He doesn't understand where DW and DD1 went or why they're not home or why we can't go get them. His reaction is alternating between clingy and tantrums. But we'll get through.
Obviously the other half of the family did make it to TX. We've talked on the phone a few times, they're knee-deep in (her) family stuff, DD isn't warming up to people but that doesn't surprise me. I'll just be glad when this trip is over.
Mindy - Don't be too sure men are the illogical ones. DW has been threatening to take the shotgun out and silence the guinea fowl some night.
duck stew
I vote for shooting them. LOL!! Of course, ya'll know how gun happy I am.
I got some sleep, not enough. never enough. LOL! It's cold and rainy here (yay!), and we are out of bread. I might try to make some, but with DH's diet, he really has to limit bread and the smell might be too much for him to take. So, we may just live without for a couple days. But I'm hungry! Too tired to make dinner last night, the kids got sandwiches (the last of the bread). Then I skipped breakfast because I always have peanut butter toast. Don't know what I will do about lunch, eating dinner at the inlaws. I was called to sub but DH wasn't here to watch the kids, so had to turn them down.
Did I tell ya my computer told me I had no more hard drive space? Never had that happen before!
Doing laundry today, playing around some, might pick up, but what's the point. Been pricing new computers. If it rains this summer, I might can get a new one!
Mike, hope DS3 gets over missing mama so much. Did he do fine the time she and DD went to W/DC?
Ya'll have a great day!
yum!
But I vote for Peking Duck, not duck stew. My mouth is watering.
Tonight is my cousin's naming! DH is even excited. I didn't even have to coax him to go, which is amazing because he hates going to any kind of religious service. He wrote a piece for a church choir once and grumbled about having to go to play the piano for it. We're glad the synagogue is still there, too-- I was taking a class on Wednesday night, and a huge truck parked outside it as the last of us were leaving. We were afraid it might be a bomb, since synagogues get attacked in the US more than a lot of other places, but it wasn't.
PODA: clean the catboxes, take out trash (lots of it), bring up laundry, maybe do another load, wrap present and card for the cousin. Also I will need to shower and change.
Hi Flyfriends :)
I missed you guys!!
My laptop crashed, I had to reformat the hard drive, still didn't work, ended up getting a new one. Not very happy with an unexpected big expense now but I NEEDED it. LOL... So now I have a new laptop, then my Mom gets the old one working, so now Dh and i each have our own. At least I got the new one.
I tried to catch up reading everyone's posts but it really has been so long. Hope everyone is good, sounds like you have all been very busy.
Mike, good to "see" you. Hope Dana is feeling well, and you too. How are your migraines?
Jamielea, how are you feeling? Sounds like you have lots going on. Hope you're feeling well. I actually am feeling the best I have during my pregnancy. My blood pressure was a little high, but Dr says not to worry, no protein in my urine. Could it be the 25lbs I have gained that I am lugging around
How many weeks are you now? Im 27 weeks, i will be 28 weeks on Monday.
Hi to Everyone. I hope to be around more now that I have my laptop back.
We have been on vacation this week. Lots of yummy out to dinners, relaxing, movies. And we are decorating the baby's room. I love it. We did the John Lennon real love theme. It is coming along so cute. If I get a chance I will post some pictures either tom or Sunday.
OK on to the flapping.... really not much..
~painted the trim in the baby's room
~got breakfast for DH and I
~dusted
still have to:
~get snacks for tonight having my parents, sis and brother over to play cards
~vacuum
~pick up all our painting junk from around the room so we can show everyone tonight
~take a quick nap
~take a shower since I am covered in paint
Well, good to see everyone again. I will try to check in more often, tomorrow is a big day, DSil is closing on her house today, we are helping them move tomorrow. Then off Sun and then back to work. Blech.
Love, Jackie
Have a great night and Happy Flying
Good Evening! TADA bank
Good Evening!
TADA
bank
playdate/visit friends
dinner
dw loaded and unloaded and reloaded
towels/sheets being washed now
Hope everyone had a good day today. Playdate was okay, friend's little boy got pretty aggressive toward even me! Lots of timeouts for him and talking to but he was just in a foul mood.
DD takes it all instride, she is a mellow one thus far.
But it does put a damper on things.
We are going out to get that beef tomorrow. They live out near Amish country so we will probably stop and get some cheese, maybe eat some Amish cooking, too.
Well, better tend to the laundry before I veg for the night.
Good Night All...
Heidi
Friday
Well, I kept my dishes done, but my kitchen is not clean. The house is neat, but I didn't get any vacuuming done. Plus I haven't gotten any flylady posts in 2 days. I don't know why. But, as I said in another post, I didn't kill any kids, so I did really well today.
Mike - I know that men aren't the only illogical ones, I've met a few illogical women (my sister comes to mind), but as a woman, I'm biased - I think women rule, and men drool!
Anyway, I gotta go, I'll talk to you all later!
Hello Karen
Karen, glad to see you popping in. How is the house coming. Have the kids settled in to the new area?
Today started too early (5:30 on a Saturday!!) DS12 is attending the state chess tournament in Lexington. It is about 1 1/2 hour drive from the house. Luckily DH has chosen to go with him. I'll be helping DD17 (18 on Monday) get ready for the Junior Prom. She is actually a senior, but a nice young man asked her to go and so she will be going to the Junior and Senior Prom this year. I'm mainly hear for moral support and bobby pinning the hair. Last year we went to the beauty shop, but she thinks we can do it. Wish up luck.
PODA
Vacuum first floor
Dust firt floor
Actually tidy the first floor (not sure where we will be taking pictures, but thought first floor should be nice)
Clean powder room
Dinner completed will just need to heat up when DH returns
1 load of laundry
I think I 'll also wash sheets
Big TADA yesterday. On Thursday I was helping a friend pick out closet organizers for the home they are building. They should be moving in about 1 month. She and her husband seem soo stressed and very snippy with one another. I felt a bit awkward and wanted to find a way to help. Well, I fixed 5 suppers for them (froze 4 and had 1 for the refrigerator). I thought if they could occassionally sit down to a nice dinner with their 3 boys it would help to refocus their lives and priorities. By the way I put three in the freezer for us too and 2 in the fridge. So dinner is ready for tonight. Tomorrow is turkey breast , on sale for .99/# this week.(DH husband loves the traditional thanksgiving trimmings any time of year)
Jamie, enjoy your anniversary celeb with DH
Jenny, Hope you got to the market for bread, not good to go without breakfast
CariAnne, nice to see you're still in the cyber family
Vonnie, treasure the fact that DD wants to be around (I know it can be annoying but this time will pass so quickly, my sweet DD will be 18 on Monday, I sure miss the preschool days)
Mike, good luck keeping it together while Dana's away.
Well, it looks like I've got a plan and lots to do.
Susan
Weekends just mean less e-mail
Tada:
- Dinner, dishes, diapers
- Fed critters
- Watered in greenhouse
- Did some weeding
- Burned trash
- Moved big bookshelf out of bedroom-to-be
- Author review on two chapters
- Read galley proofs for an article
- Wrote introduction for next book
Slug:
- Write some code (well, I wrote a tiny bit, but didn't work on the big project I've been procrastinating on)
PODA:
- Dinner, dishes, diapers
- Feed critters (done!)
- Water in greenhouse
- Do some weeding
- Burn trash (done!)
- Move giant desk out of bedroom-to-be. This will probably require a saw.
- Revise book appendix
- Work on that coding project
- Sweep in back bathroom
I really need to start working on floors and horizontal surfaces. I'd like the place to be a bit cleaner when DW gets home than when she left. Won't stay that way once the whole family is back together, but it would be a nice thing to do.
Jenny, hard drives are cheap these days. Of course new computers are almost as cheap, and don't require you to know anything about putting together computers
DS did better the last time DW took a trip - there was about a day of "mama better come home" and then he mostly played. But he was 2 then instead of 3 1/2 now, and he only had about one day of memory for most things. Plus it was only 5 days instead of 2 weeks. Last night he climbed up into my lap and stated "I miss mama." But we're managing OK.
Jackie, migraines are kinda sorta under control. I'm now taking Depakote twice daily as a preventative, and it does indeed seem to be preventing most of the daily low-level ones without notable side effects. It doesn't do a thing, as far as I can tell, to prevent the roughly weekly serious ones. For those I have Imitrex, which will knock down the headache at the cost of two hours of unpleasantness and eight hours of spaciness. I often don't have that ten hours to spare, so I tend to just ignore the bad ones as best I can. Dana's pregnancy is still completely uneventful, though pretty soon I'll be the one getting to drive the truck again.
OK, time to get a bit more work done before DS wakes up and the circus begins anew
Missing mama
I don't blame DS for missing Dana. I'm sure she misses him too. When my grandmother was on her deathbed, I flew to Ohio, but I couldn't take the girls. It was the first time I had ever been away from them overnight, first time I had ever been more than 30 minutes away from them! I cried the whole trip up there. Of course, they did fine, lots of play time with daddy. LOL!
And I think I will push for a new computer instead of more hard drive.
This one is 6 years old, I think it is time.
Hi Bronwyn!!!
Susan, ya'll have 2 proms? Ours was always Juniors and Seniors together. Actually, the Juniors did the prom for the Seniors.
I've discovered the past couple weeks how much I wish I could go back and redo high school. So many "if onlys...". If only I had gone to school here and had DH's parents, I could have played volleyball and basketball, and cheered, and NHS, and FFA, and FHA, and 4-H. I could have done it all, instead of nothing (I wasn't allowed to do anything extra-curricular in highschool).
Ok, I need to pick up the living room, fold some laundry, and scrap some more. Got 4 pages done yesterday (well, nearly done, need to type up the journaling. I hate my handwriting, I do all that on the computer).
Oh, and I didn't make it to the store for bread. We are doing without til tomorrow after church. yesterday was cold and rainy and I didn't want to go anywhere. I hate Walmart on Saturdays, I prefer after church on Sunday's.
Ya'll have a great day!
another peek
Susan, I love reading about your adventures with a teen DD! She seems like a lovely young woman, and it's inspiring for me with my two still-little girls. Thanks! And good luck with the hair!
Cari -- can I call you Bronwyn? -- what about Sweetcheeks?!
Good to see you peeking in too.
And of course Tigerlilly -- wow. The roster is ever changing around here. We really do need a directory or something.
We have hit a low that we haven't seen for some time here -- filled up the DW, with another load waiting in the sink. Yes, two loads stacked up, for no reason -- no company, no big baking session (I guess I did make some baby food cubes with the steamer and food processor). Sigh ...
And I was reminded today that my "Christmas cards" still sit in the cabinet in the dining room, unmailed.
Whine whine whine . . .
Fun weekend planned anyway -- went to church Fish Fry last night then took DD almost-5 for ice cream that she earned for good behavior. Got a babysitter for tonight and going to a grown-up party! (Mainly people with no children, I think -- lots of young lawyers -- we'll see . . . At least there'll be wine!) And tomorrow I am taking DD to a community theatre production of Wizard of Oz (a friend's older daughter is Dorothy), which I've heard is great and fun.
That should take my mind off the house! (Come to think of it, it does look like a tornado passed through . . .)
Hello!
Hello Everyone!
I hope everyone is doing well. It has been a while since the last time I checked in. I find now that I work on a computer all day at work using email, instant messaging and the internet, that I hardly use my computer at home except for the internet banking.
I am still working at the same place, but I am still just temporary through a placement agency, even though it will be 2 years the first part of April that I have worked at the manufacturing plant. I am still doing accounts receivable, purchasing and next week I will be helping out in the quality assurance department. I feel the more I know the better and hopefully someday soon they will offer me a permanent position with the company.
TADA:
*Vacuumed Floors
*Made Chili for Lunch
*Wipe Down Bathroom
*Tidy Kitchen and Dining Room
*Got lunch ready for DH and his three helpers.
Today he had his brother, a neighbor and a friend over to help him put the tin on the ceiling of his new workshop. This is the workshop that he started last spring and is still working on. I don't think it will be completely finished until the end of this year.
Tonight we are going to my parents place for supper, to celebrate me getting older. Mom asked me what I wanted for supper, and I requested turkey, dressing and the works and I am really looking forward to it.
All Quiet on the Eastern Front
Finally, I think things will settle down around here a bit. Well, I hope so anyway!
DS12 was so great in the play! Infact, I think all of the children were just incredible. It was called Honk! and is a musical version of the Ugly Duckling story. My son was the comic-relief Bullfrog, and I was musical director. The kids that were in it were 4-14 in age, and they pulled off 90 minutes of dialogue and music (14 songs. Kids never cease to amaze me...
Before I post my TADA, I have to say that my new washer was installed yesterday, and WOW. I think from now on I should be able to get all our weekly laundry done in 3-5 loads, instead of 6-12 like before, and the dry time is down from 120 minutes to 20! That should speed things up significantly. I didn't want y'all to see my small laundry load number and think I am slacking!
TADA

HI everyone! Jo, I didn't
HI everyone!
Jo, I didn't realize you were doing "Honk!" The kids and I saw that this last fall at the Rochester Children's Theater. It was so cute! They had 40 or so "froglets" at the end to sing the song. That is quite a show, good for you! We saw "Miss Nelson is Missing" today - also very cute.
Shaun, how was Oz? How was the party?!
Jenny, yes I know what you mean about highschool! I wish I would have dated more than one guy! (This is not my DH by the way)
JamieLea, no we never ate at the Tower in SA, I had forgotten there was a restaurant up there! We usually ate Mexican actually! Is La Fogata on Blanco still there? Their food was the best!
Great to see you Nancy! Happy Birthday!
OK, I've gotta run - have a good nite everyone!
hello hello hello
And hello again. The naming last night, and the party afterwards, went well. I almost cried during several parts of it. Three of the relatives involved were my blood relatives (the baby, his mother, and her father), so we had a picture taken of us at the party to send to my mom. It was extra-festive, like a wedding reception except without music and dancing.
I was a little hungover this morning (from two lousy glasses of wine!) but I did run to the post office and the pharmacy, and went to Borders and hung out with DH. Then I came home and altered our March budget to accommodate some unexpected expenses. Then I called my uncle, with whom I will be staying and whose son I will be babysitting Monday night and Tuesday morning.
Dishes? People are supposed to wash dishes? Who knew?
I'm kidding. I know about the shiny sink. I've just been a little busy and tired!
Mindy
Have you been checking your spam or bulk mail folder? Sometimes e-mail programs suddenly start putting Flylady e-mails in there, especially if you are not using a Yahoo e-mail account.
Finding energy somewhere
Tada:
- Dinner, dishes, diapers + 1 other load of laundry
- Fed critters
- Watered in greenhouse
- Did some weeding
- Burned trash
- Cut up giant desk and moved out of bedroom-to-be.
- Started removing paneling from walls
- Revised book appendix
- Worked on that coding project
SLUG:
- Sweep in back bathroom (oops! Forgot all about that one!)
PODA:
- 3 D's
- Wash sheets
- Feedcritters (done!)
- Water in greenhouse
- Dosome weeding
- Burn trash (done!)
- Haul giant desk bits to barn
- Find places for stuff on last remaining shelf in bedroom-to-be
- Strip more paneling from walls
- Write more code
- Get paperwork together for tax preparer
- Sweep in back bathroom
- Dig holes to plant plum trees
And yes, some of the same things keep coming up over and over again. There's a big pile of trash that needs to be burned, and I've been doing a little bit each morning while DS sleeps...can't do too much because I don't want him waking up alone in the house. Fortunately, with the weather being good, he's been getting an hour of running around time each afternoon, which is really helping with his sleep schedule. Yet another reason to enjoy spring!
Jenny, yesterday it went from "I miss mama" to "mama better come home." Most of the time he's OK but first thing in the morning is not so good. Oh well, nine more days...we'll put another X on the calendar when he wakes up this morning. For some reason he's adamant about not wanting to talk to her on the phone. Haven't figured that one out yet.
I used to "what-if" my high school years, but overall, I'm pretty happy with the way things turned out, so I don't really have any desire to change things any longer. Besides, I can't remember back that far now
Hi Flyfriends :)
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. My vacation is winding to an end and I feel a little blue, but I guess that's life. Dh went back to work today so I have the day to myself. Going to try to relax, poossibly go to lunch with a friend, and read my book. Has anyone read The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold? I love it- it is sad, or at least it is to me- may be pregnancy hormones. I cried within the first 20 pages but I cant seem to put it down.
Yesterday was a busy day, moved DSil and bil into their new house. Brought back memories of when our house had that new, uncluttered feeling. That feeling of what are we going to do with all of this room? I think I better do a few 100 fling boogies before the baby comes to make some room for him/her. Where in the world did all this stuff come from??
Shaun, hope you had a great time at the party. Hope you get to relax a little today too.
Jo, great job with the play! Kids are amazing, and so are you! My Dstepson was in the school play last weekend, they did How to Succeed at Business without Trying. It was excellent. I was so proud of him, to be able to get up on stage and sing is something I would never have ventured at his age. I sometimes worry at home that he is so to himself, then he gets on stage and is belting out songs and acting. Im glad he has found himself that way.
Becky, hope you're feeling better after your hangover yesterday. Boy do I miss wine!! Although I have had an occasional glass here and there, and I certainly don't miss the hangover part. You did lots considering you felt yucky.
Well hope everyone enjoys their Sunday. I am going to try not to get too depressed over back to work day tomorrow.

Here's a pathetic poda:
~sent pictures to Dsil of her moving day
~ate a healthy breakfast since all I did was pig out all week. I will miss cheesecake
~1 load laundry washed, needs to be dried and folded.
~call Val to see if she wants to come over for lunch or a movie
~read my book
Bye guy and girls
Love, Jackie
Good morning.
Well, I posted last week, that was great. Then I decided I wanted to move some living room furniture so I could see the birds and flowers better, which lead to me tearing up carpet in the old living room/new dining room to reveal hardwood floor underneath (gorgeous), and rearranging three rooms of furniture. I'm just finishing putting the computer back finally. It would have been done quicker, but I have horrible arthritis which slows things down. And the weather's been nice here so the boys and I put together a greenhouse, built some shelves and started some seeds.
Now, all that sounds great, but I really don't have routines and I need them back. I feel like I'm aimlessly just putzing around the house, can't keep up with the boys and the messes they make (I have three DSs, ages 5, 3, 1). DH is great, just always busy with work so not much of a help these days. He tries, but what can I do?
I started a control journal three years ago, and it's still a work in progres. I started taxes in January, only have a few more blanks to fill in for a hefty refund. I'd rather demolish things, like tear up carpet or old bushes that need to be ripped up. But I really need to get some routines back in our lives to keep the basics in check. Some of you sound like you're doing great! Any others stuck in the mud like me?
--Karin
Lovely Bones
Jackie, yes I've read it - good, but horrifying!
Back from church and trying to figure out our day now.
Andrea
Sunday
Why, oh why is life so busy? I am climbing walls today because I sat down with my calendar and various papers with important dates on them to collate it all in one place. I thought things were going to calm down now that the show is over. Not! I did not become a teacher for June, July and August as the old joke goes, but I admit that for the first time in 14 years I am really gleefully anticipating summer vacation. And the worst part of all this is that I know full well that I did it to myself...
OK, I'm done whining.

Good Afternoon! Wow...lots
Good Afternoon!
Wow...lots happening around here if I miss a day. Caught up on all posts but can't really remember them all!
We went to Amish country yesrerday, bought cheese at the cheese factory, ate lunch at an authentic Amish restaurant, then went to DH cousin's house to pick up our beef. Ended up staying the whole rest of the day there and had chili with them for dinner. They took the kids out to collect eggs from the chickens, pet the llamas, see the goats and cows and peacocks. The kids always enjoy going out there and I can definitely see why.

Hi LoisD!!
"CariAnn, how is the visit with your mother?"

If that icon gives you an indicator....
And your family history story is wonderful!!
(Nag - Nag - Nag on those photos....!)
And I have a deal for you.....

I have an only slightly used Mother that I am willing to entertain any offers on!
Should you so desire, anyway.....
LOL
CariAnne.
PS: Yeah, Yeah..... I have to clean my sink ~ it is far from shiny.
Next point??
YEAYYYYYYYYYY!!!
GO LoisD!!!!!!

Welcome back Karin!!
It is good to "see" you here!
*hugs*
CariAnne
(Bronwyn)
LOL. "Sweetcheeks" reporting for duty, Ma'am.
*salute*

You can call me Bronwyn.... Or you Can Call me Cari.... Or You can call me CariAnne..... LOL (Anyone else remember that old commercial....? I can't even remember what it was for...)
Good to see you too, Shaun.
And Yes.
You can call me Bronwyn.
I still answer to it.
Heck ~ I'll answer to Sweetcheeks, too!!
That was cute.
I about spit my coffee all over my monitor upon reading your post.
Which, okay, would have NOT been so decidedly cute....
Thank You for the laugh!
*Hugs*
CariAnne
Hi Jenny!!
Your DS's uniform (that you mentioned in a different post) sounds adorable!
*hugs*
Bronwyn.
Thank You Susan. :)
I figured I had better get back on the threads over here.

I am making (another) control journal and doing my best to get this place back in FlyLady order. I tossed my old control journal ~ thought that I didn't need to keep up with babysteps/shining the sink/flings after three years of doing it. LOL I'll not make THAT mistake again!!
Being over here is motivating ~ even though, at times, I am hoping for a clean sweep by osmosis.
Congratulations on your TADA. You got a lot done!
Very Inspiring!
