Serenity Flies Again!

Joss Whedon get the greenlight for "Firefly" movie: Woo-freakin'-hoo!!

My little fanboy heart has been breaking ever since the cancellation of "Angel" last month, so the news that Firefly will become a feature film (to be called "Serenity," the ship's name) is uplifting to say the least. All nine members of the original core cast have signed on and Joss says the movie will be stand-alone for folks who aren't familiar with the original show.

Only 11 episodes of the truly brilliant sci-fi western made it to air (of 14 made), and Fox TV aired them badly out of order; it's no wonder it didn't catch on quickly. If you don't think it's something you want to purchase, find a fanboy friend who has the set and offer to bring the Mountain Dew and snacks if you can watch along with. Seriously, they are great. They're just better than broadcast television deserved; the show had it in it to be better than Buffy, and it makes "Enterprise" look like a high school theatrical.

Don't blame me if you start saying stuff like "Best be getting on with things."

I thought Angel was really on

I thought Angel was really on a roll this year. I was sorry to hear that it'd been cancelled.

Serenity is scheduled for next year! Days after hearing the news, I'm still delighted.

yeah but enough with the possessed girls

First Cordy, now Fred. Though I now understand the whole "Amy Acker is gorgeous" thing. All dressed up as Ilyria, she's stunning. As Fred, not so much--just a really skinny girl.

Woohoo!!!

This is the best news I've heard since. . . Wednesday (oh well, we've had some good news this week).

I adore Firefly and Mal. We watched it on DVD (had never even heard of it - we were already overseas when it aired and didn't even know if existed). I became addicted to the series and even have the crew as my computer background.

I can't wait for the movie to come out. I hope it answers some of the questions that are unanswered in the series.

Right now my computer background is Puppet!Angel, with the sword slung over his shoulders and the words "FEAR THE PUPPET" in the background. heh.

I'm going to dig up some pictures of various Joss shows to put in my screensaver slideshow display. Maybe I'll throw in some pix of the kids to avoid total fanboy geekdom.

whoops, too late. Eye-wink

aka Andrew's dream girl

andrew's dream girl? LOL

I wasn't under the impression that Andrew HAD a dream girl, though maybe he'd like to move to your county.

I may start an Angel thread. I avoid the usual websites because some idiots keep posting spoilers in the subject lines so you can't avoid them even with "spoiler alert" written there.

Andrew veers toward one end of the Kinsey scale, yes, but still is a wee tad intrigued by girls. He told Anja once that she was his dream girl. I just about died when he showed up on Angel this season...

Not quite the same thing!

I think he had such a great rapport with Anya because he can control demons. She did whatever he wanted.

To go a little off subject here, if you aren't already watching "Wonderfalls", you might like it. I do. It's produced (and sometimes written) by Tim Minear, who's written, directed, and produced a bunch of Whedon's shows. He and Joss were co-executive producers of "Firefly".

Jewel Staite, who played Kaylee on "Firefly", will have a recurring role on "Wonderfalls" starting in a few weeks.

Like most Buffistas/Browncoats, I've been checking out "Wonderfalls." I'm kind of feeling the love but I'm not there yet. Jewel Staite, I'll tune in for. She made me adore Little Kaylee!

And as long as someone's revived this thread...

Can I just say that my fanboy obsession is just getting WORSE, not better, with this stupid show? I am, and I have to take a deep breath to admit this, even beginning to study Mandarin. Which, to be fair, I've been interested in learning for years. But still. It's sad. I'm also trying desperately to round up enough fellow Browncoats to organize a Shindig (Firefly fans gathering) here in Portland.

If you ever hang around any of the big Firefly forums, I'm MayLee (bad Chinese pun on meili, which means "pretty").
