Clearing Clutter/Liberating Self -Think Spring!

lgunnoe's picture

Well, friends...how are YOU using your "leap day?" Kitty's post brought spring to mind, and although I don't "spring clean," its time to begin thinking about all those changes that warmer weather will bring (or cooler/fall for you, Sue!)

Wardrobe check/toss/update?
Windows/screens check/clean/repair?
Have the Air conditioner serviced (may be cheaper to do now than later!)
Change the home accessories?
Plan some self/fitness/relaxation time...

What else do we need to to to "Get Ready" for a new season???

Of course there's always that list of "must do's" for everyday that never seem to go away, too...sigh

Happy Leap-day to you!

Lenora

Well Done Killy!

and that's about it for my post! I'm just putting everything off until DH leaves on Wednesday night. He's away for nearly 6wks this time I think, so there's just no point in doing anything non-essential in the time he's here. I'm sort of planning big things, but we'll have to see how it goes. There might be a bit more from me next week... if I can only survive this week first!

Where have I Been, and Doing What???

Hi gals Smiling .

Gosh I've missed you all!! I spent most of last week in the city helping the kids prepare for their guest. DIL's girlfriend flew in from Calgary with her young son(18 months) for a long weekend stay. Getting ready for that meant helping them get organized, setting up the guest room to accomodate another baby in the house, and just generally soothing a overwhelmed DIL. The time I did spend at home was spent vegging out I'm afraid. As a result...the kids house is in great shape and mines fallen to rack & ruin.

Yesterday was the last day to get RRSP's set up to claim on the last tax year. I spent the morning having my brains fried by a financial wizard. Why is it they feel they need to explain every single little thing to a person? I'd told him at least three times that it was all going over my head and I did not care about the details. I employ him to worry about details....I don't want to hear about them. Just make my $$$$ work for me PLEASE!

I gathered together what little capacity I had to think and made a trip to the grocery store and Walmart before I returned home. I'm soooo happy to have an empty slate in front of me that I can't sleep. I woke up at 2am, and it's now 4am....still not feeling tired. I'm sure I'll get tired though, right when my day should be starting.

Thanx for geting the new thread going Lenora, and with thoughts of spring Big grin. I'm so ready to embrace spring. We don't really get to enjoy it here until about May, though we do get some nice days in April. I'm wanting to put some serious effort into dejunking some more before I get to spring cleaning. I know that spring cleaning is going to involve some major painting this year, and I'd like to be rid of as much junk as possible before that starts.

I bought myself a little stick vac yesterday. I was getting really tired of hauling out 50feet of built in vac hose every time I needed to do a little spiffing. Most of our house is hardwood anyway, and I wanted something lightweight I could run around the floors with. It did not need to be a super vac. I really hated rolling up that 50 feet of vac hose everytime I used it. I'm going to give that little stick vac a workout today and see what I think of it.

DH got crazy this past weekend and decided to start getting his garage organized. I have no idea what got into him. I guess he finally got tired of not being able to find anything out there. It's starting to look much better.

I've got a whole list of chores I can pick from today, but I think getting some sleep is going to be high on that list. I'll check in with you all later

Oh.....Killy.....great work on that bedroom. I always love it after the bedroom gets a good going over. It's so easy to put that room last and just close the door so no one can see it.

Busy Doing Nothing

Would you come over and organise me please, Hope? Smiling

Spring is sprung

The grass is ris,
I wonder how the birdies is!

Err... I washed my living room curtains, and have some frightening plans for the kids' curtains, the fans and several other disgustingly dirty items....

no energy to post though (see New You for slightly more detail if you're really interested!)

I'll organize you Honey!

If I can toot my own horn I'm darn good at it. I'm kind of like those Clean Sweep people. I have no problem walking in and making a quick assessment and plan to reach the goal. So why does my own house need so much attention I wonder? It's just so much easier for me to do someone elses place. When I lived in the city, was working, and had a cleaning woman come in once a week, she used to tell me the same thing. She did a bang-up job of cleaning my house, but said her own house was a mess.

I had a long list of to-do's yesterday. About 21 of them. I managed to knock 8 off the list. In my own defense, I did not get up until noon, and then needed to take an hour out to watch Oprah give stuff away to her studio audience(and wish I was there).

Today I will keep picking away at that list.

Oh thanx a bunch(tongue in cheek) Kerri for reminding me about curtains and fans. I'm afraid to go and look, I'll probably have to add them to my list.

I'd best get at it here....or I'll get nothing done. Later gals Laughing out loud .

Blahs for me today

I'm just feeling very, very lazy today. I had a rotten sleep last night and it's really gloomy outside.

My to-do list sits in front of me, and I think I'll just pick a couple of real easy tasks and see if I can build some momentum. I knocked 7 tasks off the list yesterday. Finally my bedroom got a much needed dusting.

If I can find a decent sized box I think I'll start a garage sale corner. I won't be having that sale until May or June, but I could get *stuff* out of my way now. It will make it easier to paint. No...I have not picked a color yet.

Off I go now...there are only seven tasks on my list so who knows. Perhaps I'll do them all Jawdropping! .

Granny Sue

Congratulations grandma Big grin .

Isn't it just the greatest? I hope all are doing well. I love the name Aiden, did I spell that right? It's over on the old thread so I can't check it.

Have fun.

Hi, everyone. Guess what? I'm a Grandma!!! After a pretty rough time for Mum, little Aiden Joseph was born by caesarean on March 3rd. We saw him 15 minutes after he was born and I swear that he knew his two grandmas and grandpop. More later.
Bye, Granny Sue.

Congratulations!

What lovely news! Big grin
Now you and Hope can swap anecdotes!

Congrats Sue!

I'm thinking you won't be spending too much time on here with us for a while!! Smiling

I'm still on track for myself this week, sort of. I got all those massive living room curtains back up the same night I washed them, even though I didn't get to hang them outside, and the actual curtains themselves were a bit damp when I put them up - it was intended that the creases would drop out nicely, but of course the thick header was the dampest part and the rest was almost dry! I just put the kids' curtains in the wash a little while ago, once the morning sun went off their room - it gets pretty hot in there at times.

I also baked both loaves of banana bread for tomorrow's school party (well, one won't be for the party of course!), and as usual I completely forgot to grease the pan the second time. I got lucky though and it came out perfectly. I really have to stop doing double batches of this banana bread! The pasta salad is ready to go this afternoon, along with the large tin foil pans I bought to put it in.

And now I'm trying to organise the rest o the next few weeks, because believe it or not I'm running out of time already! I don't want to go out more than a couple of times a week, because it has to be afternoons (nothing opens here till 11am or later) and that eats into DD's homework time and that's not fair if I do it too often. Then I also have 3 trips to the hospital in this month (one bone density test next Friday, one GI appointment 10 days later and then my kidney appointment - 6mthly instead of quarterly! - at the beginning of April). Add to that a week of school holiday when I don't want to interrupt Art Week (!) with mundane grocery shopping and you'll see what I mean about running out of time! Oh yes, and I actually have to plan and prepare for the Art Week, which is the week after next already and I've done almost nothing so far!

ARGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

that's becoming a familiar refrain for me! Ah, but at least I'm sleeping well with DH away! I slept solidly from 11pm till 6am last night, and was most relieved to find DS was still dry when I got him up. Another week or so of this and I might be caught up a bit, if that's possible. I can't change the morning wake-up time, so I have to mindfully get my as* into bed earlier. It was going to be 10:15pm last night, but then my stomach rumbled and I had to pick up a book while I swallowed my food...

When I was drawing up my to-do list this time I put everything on it, but then dated it from yesterday to next Thursday. The hamster cage cleaning is really going to have to slide into this afternoon somehow (DD does the scrubbing while I just empty out the old sawdust and restock when everything's clean and dry - she learns responsibility and I don't have to wash the cage!). And vacuuming too - did I mention we finally gave up on our old vacuum cleaner?? It was only 5yrs old, but the end part has been held on by duct tape for most of the last 4yrs, and I just had enough. No more suction sucks! Eye-wink I didn't want anything fancy, we looked in a couple of places, and then I had to pop off and collect DS from his art class, and when I came out DH was walking off with a box full of vacuum cleaner. It wasn't one I'd seen before, it was more expensive (I suspect) than any we'd been looking at... I'm just totally confused as to why he would make a final decision without me being there. I was only gone for less than 10mins! So of course when I said that he takes it personally, and now I'm not allowed to make a single damn comment about it or he sulks.

Whatever...

Kerri.

Quick checkin

Because I'm busy! I'm actually doing a couple of things at the moment and will come back later and peck it out.

My to do list dwindles, to be replaced with a new list tomorrow I'm sure.

I've decided I hate those pesky little jobs. You know, the ideas you come up with and never quite get around to. I think I'll put one pesky job a day on my to do list and see if I can get some of them done.

Todays??? A drawer organizer I snatched from DH's garage. We used to use it in the sailboat, but that's a past past-time so there it sat, unused. I've been thinking I could use it in the kitchen. It's been sitting in my office for 3 days(where I dropped it), all dusty, and waiting for me to make it work.

Have a great weekend all Smiling .
