Albuterol-It's What's for Breakfast....

Just in case anyone would ever wonder about such a thing-
liquid albuterol ampules used for a nebulizer are not childproof. Three year olds can very easily twist that little top off. To a three year old, albuterol looks like something good to drink,I guess. The good news is that Poison Control says that even if she (or any three year old) had drank an entire 3 ml ampule, the most that would happen is they'd have a stomach ache and feel a little blah.
(Just in case anyone would ever possibly wonder about such a thing.)

Luckily,in my thankfully limited experience,I have found out that most 3 year olds find that albuterol really does not taste all that fabulous and after the first swallow, they decide they've had enough.

Nonetheless...I freaked out.

I adore this youngest child of mine but all the things I always bragged about my first three child NEVER doing, she has done. I guess it's payback for gloating about my wonderfully angelic prior children.

Been there, Done that . . .

To tell the truth, none of my children have ever drank albuterol, but my niece ate whole tube of neosporin once. According to poison control it would at the worst give her the runs. And my littlest sister (who's 16 years younger than me) used to lick the top of the comet container. Evidently she thought it tasted good, since she did it three times. And my son ate some shampoo. But they're all alive and well! Goodness knows what they'll eat next!

There was something I was reading the other day about how it's a miracle any of us who were children before the invent of child-proof caps and whatnot are still alive....LOL

This same child of mine used to eat Burt's Bees Baby Bee Diaper Rash ointment....she thought it was yummy.
She also ate lots and lots of dirt and ended up getting lead poisoning. That was the only thing we concluded it could be from- the soil was tested and yup...it tested positive for lead. Wonderful,eh? LOL

Hey, Burt's Bees Diaper Cream smells like honey!

Actually, I'm glad you posted this, b/c we have a cupboard full of those little albuterol ampules, and my little baby is a troublemaker!

My older kids have always said Baby Bee ointment smells like pine sap.It does have a rather distinctive smell, doesn't it?

Potting soil, and another kid's, well, ummmm....potty accident. Called poison control both times. I wonder if they keep logs on who called about what. Smiling

Chapstick Here!

Chapstick and triaminic have been our samplings.

Nebulizer treatments make my son super hyper. I'd hate to see what would happen if he took albuterol straight up! Smiling

Albuterol substitute.

AS a sidenote - there is now a variant of Albuterol called Xopinex or Zopinex. The same effect without the "wiring" - we've used it for both kids and it has worked really well.

Lou drank half a bottle of bergamot essential oil and smelled like Earl Grey tea for two days straight. I can't even think about the goofy things they've gotten into; for a while it seemed like Poison Control knew us by voice...
