Alton Brown joins upcoming Iron Chef America: Finally, Food Network is taking the Japanese Iron Chef concept and doing it here--correctly. UPN did a cheesy version featuring well-known gourmet (?) William Shatner a couple of years ago; incredibly, Shatner was the best thing on it. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AB's hometown rag) says AB is taking the part of commentator Dr. Yukio Hattori in the American version, a role he's perfect for (at our house we call AB "the Perfessor"). The initial episodes are supposed to feature Iron Chef French Sakai and Iron Chef Japanese Morimoto versus Food Network stalwarts like Wolfgang Puck and Mario Batali. Now THAT I wanna watch.

More on Iron Chef America

"Chairman" role to be taken by martial artist: Mark Dacascos is best known, if you can call it that, for being the lead character in the TV version of "The Crow." He's rather edible himself, if you know what I mean. I'd watch him eat a bell pepper.
