Thoughts and prayers needed...

My not-sister-in-law (My boyfriend's brother's sister) is 4 months pregnant, and she just did her first round of pre-natal testing. I'm unclear on what's going on, but it looks like the baby may (or may not) have spina bifida, cystic fibrosis, and one or two other problems. These aren't diagnoses yet, just "red flags" the testing threw up, so they're going in for lots more tests. Hopefully everything will be ok, but I'm spreading the word that we need "back up from upstairs".

is this the triple screen?
...aka the AFP? Tell her to take deep breaths. It throws many, many false positives. I always recommend against it (keeping in mind that I Am Not a Doctor) and, if there's a concern, going straight for the amnio. My thoughts are with her. It's very nerve-wracking waiting for that kind of news.

Honestly, I'm not sure, I just know that CF and spina bifida were two possible outcomes (as well as twins!). This has all been filtered through BF, who heard it from his dad, who heard it from... yeah. I'm just worried for them - they just bought a small farm, she's a full time second year elementary school teacher and he's got a foundery job. I just know these kids really deserve a break, and I hope they get it! Thanks for the thoughts everyone.
