Little House Series

If anybody out there hasn't read them, buy them this minute and start reading them out loud to anyone in your family who will listen.

I have read the covers off of two sets of these over my growing up years and recently finished reading them to my 7yo daughter. Reading them aloud has added so much to my experience of Laura Ingalls Wilder's stories. Her descriptive passages are very powerful when you slow down to savor the language. She evokes the beauty and stillness of the prairie so well that you'll feel as if you are right there seeing it all with her. She must have developed this gift by becoming "eyes" for her blind sister, Mary.

The goodness of decency, responsibility, and hard work, family love, loyal friendship, simplicity, gratitude, grit, determination, perseverance, patience under hardship, all the real things that seem to be missing from our hedonistic society are contained herein for hungry hearts. These books are a blessing from beginning to end.
