Description
I LOVE to make seasoning mixes myself. I make our own chili, taco, and onion soup mixes and a Fuego Spice mix from Chevy's cookbook that we add at will to other recipies. It's very satifying to make it yourself--you never run out and you know exactly what is in the mix--no funky chemicals that you later find out are toxic.
Ingredients
- 3 c dried, minced onion
- 1 c dry beef bouillon
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp celery seed
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 3 c dried, minced onion
- 1 c dry beef bouillon
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp celery seed
- 1 tbsp sugar
Instructions
Add all ingredients together in a blender and grind into a fine powder. Store in an airtight container.
Use a 1/4 cup mix as you would a pouch of the store bought onion soup mix.
I used 1/4 cup mix with 16 oz. sour cream for a chip dip and it was just as good as the famous store bought brand. Tasted remarkably similar, too, but is much better for you since homemade does not have the monosodium glutamate or other icky things that the famous brand onion soup mixes have.

be careful about the bouillion you choose
...or you'll end up with MSG again. Just sayin'. Read labels.

Marigold Bouillon
For your UK readers Marigold Bouillon is excellent, with no MSG etc. The also have a vegan low salt version.

I recommend Herb-Ox instant broths
It's low sodium, no MSG, and uses real dried herbs and concentrates.
