You're right, I do this too, first thing. John, if he were left to his own devices he'd sit all winter with the heat off and the drapes closed, the goof. It doesn't matter when I come downstairs he's never opened a single shade. But then, I like pulling up all the shades myself, and closing them when it's dark. If I'm particularly in need of cosiness, I close the lace curtains when it's just coming on to dusk and then the shades when it's dark.
