Injustice abounds
I read about the injustice to our soldiers and thier familes all over the place. As recently as this week a woman found out her soldier died. He died March 5, it was a full ten days before she even heard the news. After you loose a service member you have to have thier funeral and then if you live on post you have to move. Alot of times women have to move before they even see the first dollar of life insurance. In thier grief they don't even have the heart to speak out against injustice. Its far more often the generosity of strangers rather than that of the government that gets us by. The mental toll three, four and even more deployments is taking on these mens minds and thier marriages and families hasnt even been really given more than a passing glance. We are told "hey at least its not Viet Nam where your man wouldnt have lived through that many deployments". Thats not good enough for me.
I contacted my congressman Bob Ethridge and his military advisor a few months ago about the extreem situation of my husbands stoploss being almost his whole deployment. They are going to use our case in the arguments they are presenting against stoploss right now, and while we hope to help soldiers in the future, its not much help to us. We were told stoploss is the presidents right to invoke and his alone and he has done this. Enlistment in the Military is down and this is President Bush's answer. At least its not the draft of thousands of young men who really arent cut out to do this job. I sleep better knowing my husband has a better chance of survival than someones son who really cant handle this and will die and maybe kill others with him.
The injustices are to numbered to count. Its easy to find a cause in this war to take up. I thank every person in this country who has taken up any cause or written even one email to the Reps and Congressmen. Anything you do to help these men and women is better than nothing. Even if it is just taking the time to write an email about something you see and know is wrong. The reservist and National Gaurd memebers are getting the shaft in alot of ways too beccause thier Branches of service arent set up with the programs active duty have. Just take a look around you and always stand up for what is right. I wouldnt ask anyone to become a devoted advocate but if you can send a care package or write an email to congress or anything like that you are my HERO!
*edit* Please remeber that you can oppose the war without taking your support away from the troops!
