Anhata, if you think of Prince's Street, the Gardens and the Castle as the border between the Old in the south and New Town in the north, we are just at the very north of the Old Town. The Castle is literally at the bottom of our street! I went in many years ago on a romantic weekend visit with DH (before he was DH!), haven't been since we moved here. I think I'll probably wait until we have a visitor who wants to go, although I am also a castle geek.

As for further out, I know some of the west coast pretty well - several times staying at the Abbey on Iona, camping in the Western Isles, sailing around the area - but the rest I don't know well at all. Looking forward to a bit more light and warmth to start exploring! I'd love to walk some of Hadrian's Wall.
