Ahhhh, Edinburgh!
So envious of you, Zillah! Spent a week there in '98 and loved every minute. Are you living in the new town area then? I can't imagine many places in the old town where you'd have a view of the Castle.
Best wishes for settling in and getting to know your way around town. I highly recommend Tipoo Sahib restaurant if they're still there, very excellent Indian food. You'll have to let me know if they still put up the lighted Christmas greetings in different languages in the streets around the holidays, that was lovely.
It was so long ago that my info on restaurants and area attractions is probably out of date. But if you haven't been to the Castle yet, go soon! It's got a real portcullis, how cool is that?! (An American geeking out about castles, here.) I went twice and still didn't see everything. I highly recommend day trips, too. We also visited the Housestead Fort on Hadrian's wall, Dumfries, Loch Lomond, the Western Highlands, Kilmartin Glen, Oban, and journeyed up the Great Glen--Glen Coe, Ben Nevis, Loch Ness. I don't know if you've toured Scotland before, but any of those places is a must-see. I just wish we'd had time to linger in Oban, Inverness, Perth, St. Andrews....I clearly need another visit over there! Sigh.
Do I ever wish I lived there, too!
