The Crispix version
of chex mix works for us!
The basic recipe:
about 1/2 stick (1/4 cup or 1/8 lb) butter
garlic salt (or garlic powder, or roasted chopped garlic to flavor the butter)
seasoned salt
Worchestershire(sp?) sauce (I use at least 2 tablespoons) (A bit of Lime juice also adds a "kick")
about 7 cups of cereal (Use a variety of the "Chex" brand or Crispix)
a cup of mini pretzles and a cup(or two) of nuts (I use mixed nuts.)
Toss all with the melted seasoned butter on a large baking pan (I use a jelly roll pan)
Roast at about 250 degrees F for 45 min stirring every 10-15 min
Suck on an ice cube to ease burnt toungue from eating HOT roasted nuts...
Pour out on paper towedl to dry...
Add rasins, m&m's etc. when cool....
Don't bother getting out a storage container because what will be left to pack up will fit in a sandwich baggie.....
Buy a bag of pre-made mix at the grocery for the party because the homemade will be gone before your guests arrive.
Sound about right?
