I think it depends on the area or "zone"
You can find out from your state radon office or from the EPA whether the area you're moving to is a high, moderate, or low "radon potential zone". You can also test the house yourself once you move in. Several different websites offer DIY test kits. I think if radon is detected all you have to do is install a fan to vent the air under your house?
If you do find radon and install a fan, I'd still look into the radon alarms that you can buy, like smoke alarms, that will go off if the radon levels get too high. Don't know if they're very effective, but it's worth looking into.
