That's fabulous news! Hopefully this will be the end of it and you can release the worries of a little darling having surgery! Three is so young for something like that! DD was two when she had an MRI done and that was traumatic enough.
Antibiotics save lives, yes. Long term use can throw off the flora in the tummy though. Lots of beneficial bacteria live there and keep things "moving". Antibiotics don't know the diff between good and bad bugs, so they all get zapped. A lady at my church had a terrible two weeks when after a round of antibiotics a "bad" bug that was antibotic resistance took over once all the other tummy flora and fauna were killed off. It was very painful.
Luckily there are "pro-biotic" foods and supplements that you can take to restore order if you're concerned about that. Shaklee has a probiotic pill that you take with a little powder dissolved in juice (it's a tiny tiny pill) that puts the lactobacillus (beneficial bugs) back in your tummy. Lest a Dr. tell you those don't work (one told me that your stomach acid kills most of the lactobacillus before it gets to your intestines) the Shaklee pills are triple coated to release only once it's arrived at the right spot.
Unpasturized, uncooked saurkraut, yogurt with live active cultures in it (make sure it says that on the carton), kefir (some stores carry very yummy cartons of this in several fruit flavors--it tastes like sparkly smoothies), and any homemade fermented foods will do the trick. The cookbook Lynn promotes, Nourishing Traditions, has lots of recipies for how to ferment your own stuff. The fruit chutneys and preserves are very very tasty, they should be quite palatable for kids. There's way more than that in the book so if that's a little too much, the book Wild Fermentation is smaller, very fun to read, and is mostly just homemade ferments.
