This may be a book for me to
This may be a book for me to check out sometime. I have two sons, a 3 1/2 year old and a 5 month old. I also have two girls, almost 9 and almost 7. My son hasn't started school yet (will start preschool in the fall). But my experience with our Kindergarten is different from what it sounds like your school is. We have LOTS of recess and cutting on the lines. We have a few little spelling tests over very simple words (am, is, to, me, stuff like that). Some of the counting (English and Spanish up to ten. So many of our kids are from Spanish households, most of the parents don't know English. A whole other issue I have with the Spanish in the classroom. but most of the rest of the counting holds true). But other than that, there are no tests in Kindergarten. In fact, my 3rd grader just had her first standardized test last month. A couple weeks before the test I was talking to the teacher. She had no concerns about the kids passing the content of the tests. Her concern was the kids filling out the test sheets properly! LOL! They had never done that before!
Of course, I'm speaking of my girls' teachers. I could have a whole other perspective on things once my son starts school. But I'm lucky to have a small rural school for them to go to so that if they start lagging, at least I will know in time to do something about it.
Thanks for sharing your experiences with that book.
