useful people are dead sexy
My DH is another such appliance stud. He cut his eyeteeth on fridges, air conditioners, weed eaters, lawn mowers, and boat motors as a kid on his parents' resort. They did all their own remodeling and repairing, being a small family resort on a shoestring budget. It's turned DH into a fix-it stud extrodinare. When he installed a light for me in the furnace room, I about jumped him right there, I was so happy.
All home appliance repair in the house, growing up, was done by my mother, and her skills were limited in scope, though she was always willing to dig in and try. She's pretty jealous of my useful spouse and told me once we moved that she resented me taking away her repairman.
