We are married to the same man. Mine takes them off in the living room (actually, he pays the kids a quarter to take off his boots and socks). And since half the time he falls asleep on the sofa, his jeans and shirts wind up out there, too.

I'm trying to nip it in the bud with the kids. They like to watch cartoons or Disney channel in my bedroom, but they like to leave their shoes in there, too. When they do, they get grounded from TV in there for a week. It hardly happens anymore, so it must work. Too bad there is nothing to ground husbands from! LOL! (Ok, well, there is, but that's such a rare occurance, it doesn't have any significance anymore with four kids from 2 months old to 8 years. LOL!!).
