socks are way too much fun
Best sock book going: Folk Socks by Nancy Bush. Second best, though it has a spinning and dyeing component: Twisted Sisters Sock Workbook. Cat Bordi's 2-circular technique ("Socks Soar on Two Circular Needles" I think it's called) is also good if you don't like double points. Personally I do. Find a local group of knitters who hang out and I'm sure you'll find someone to walk you through it.
