I haven't read those, either--I wonder when they were published? I don't remember them being around when I was reading the first novels in elementary school. I really loved Julie of the Wolves back then--read it several times.

Island of the Blue Dolphins is another book I think of with these, and another favorite. I don't think I know Xia, though.
