English Country Dancing
I danced at Portland Country Dance Community. They have an English Country Dance with live music every Friday, pretty much, and a friend of mine is on their "ball" committee--they have a big formal ball a couple times a year, and everyone dresses in period costume (Regency, mostly--think Jane Austen). She kept saying I'd really like it, and she was right.
This morning I'm sore but happy. I really enjoyed the dancing and the company, and I think I danced fairly well considering it's been 20 years since I've even tried this style of dancing. There's a caller who runs everyone through the dances and then calls them until everyone's got the hang of it. It's not as arcane as square dance calling; it's more like plain English, so newbies can follow it.
I want to go next week!
