Not a Genius....
DD13.75 is actually not a musical genius, nor is she particularly passionate about music. What she is, though, is willing and able to learn new skills, excited about a challenge, and always ready to help out when there is a need!
I'll take that over "genius" any day!
Kitty, I totally agree about the importance of the arts in education. We have been very lucky: when we lived in Akron, she was a student at this school and our current school system also has a strong arts program.
No small part of it is that the Middle School band director is an INCREDIBLE educator who can motivate, excite, and bring out the best in these kids!
In her language arts class, she just finished composing a spoof-poem based on Poe's "The Raven." Hers is about a squirrel, "dancing on (her)chamber floor." It's really funny! Now she is illustrating it into a "pop-up" book! Lkie I said...What a kid!
