When DD2 was an infant, I had read about potty training infants. The authors suggested that parents were training their children to go in their pants only to retrain them later. That's when I started putting DD on the potty in the mornings before putting on a new diaper. She has always been doing fine with the morning bathroom break. I was having the rather naive thought that after a while, she'd get the message to do it there all the time. It hasn't happened... It's time to "take the training wheels off" (I really like that comparison!)
