CLR
We live in an area of the country that enjoys
very hard water. I would perish without my water softener!!!
We keep CLR in the house. As Rose says...it's powerful, but does the trick on hard water residue. Even our outside water is a problem. We use the well for outside watering and it's full of iron. Where the sprinklers hit the white siding on the house they eventually leave it yellowed. DH can get the iron deposits off with the CLR.
Any little working bits of plumbing, taps or chrome that get hard water deposits we just clean with CLR. I use it full strength on plumbing bits. I've even used it on glasses that have gotten hard water deposits in the dishwasher if I've happened to forget to put softener salt in the water softener.
