Portlanders: Learn about Permaculture in My Yard!

City Riparian
10/13/06-10/14/06
If you're interested in learning about permaculture, here's your chance. The City Repair project will be planting a food forest in our yard throughout City Riparian. There will be workshops, too, on "guild" planting, sheet mulching, making seedballs, and spinning yarn (taught by yrs trly). The work/learn party is free; the workshops and nighttime events are suggested donation, but no one will be turned away.
This is more than a minor miracle for John and me. I've been partially disabled for several years now, and my garden (an entire city lot) has fallen to ruin. Now that I'm pretty much completely disabled--I sure can't dig garden beds, that's for sure--we were looking at selling my home of nearly 20 years because we couldn't keep up the yard. And I love my home. I don't want to leave it.
With City Repair's help, the yard will be turned into a permaculture food forest, which will give us plenty of food for ourselves with plenty to share--as well as cut down significantly on the amount of maintenance the yard requires.
If you'd like to come, for 15 minutes or the whole weekend, to help or just talk with John and me, you're sure welcome.

if I ever have a yard....
I very much hope to have something like this. I am not currently disabled, and hope not to be of course, but I detest yard work and love fresh fruits and vegetables, so it's an ideal combination! Especially if you throw in some wildflowers.
good news, DD's school's out Friday,
so if you'd like, I can bring her with me on Friday to play with your girls.
By when do you want the crock pot?

I am so definitely planning on visiting Portland but can't really drop by from way out here in the east to out there in the west for this.
I look forward to reading about it. Please post pictures too, maybe take before and after ones as well?
Well you had me...
...checking flights to Portland.
If I had a spare $500.00 I'd be there this week-end!
(No School Friday.)
Blessings on your venture (adventure!)

as soon as I find...
...my camera. Leonard (the adorable sweet kid from City Repair who's spearheading this event) and John (who you already know is adorable and sweet) built a kiosk in front of the house yesterday. It will serve as a neighborhood bulletin board as well as info center for the build. Note to self: Get notice on kiosk about the build and what not to put on the kiosk today...

The Camera!!!!!
BAH!
I forgot to tell you. Its on top of the yarn bins!
People are already posting stuff on the Kiosk. We need to put out pushpins for them to use.
We'll get a few before/after pix.
