I need to vent!

Submitted by silverbear on Sun, 11/26/2006 - 5:45am.

I am angry and frustrated and unsure of what to do next. I don't like being in this mental space.

My dog and I have a regular walking route - north on our relatively unbusy country road to the highway, and back. It's precisely 2 miles. There are no sidewalks, but we walk facing the traffic, and move onto the gravel shoulder as traffic approaches. We burn off some energy, I collect my thoughts, and I wave to all my neighbours along the way. --read more

Witnessing honour and grace

Submitted by silverbear on Thu, 04/21/2005 - 2:29pm.

Yesterday, I found myself in a space that is physically and emotionally unlike any other place that I've been. My husband had an appointment at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. While we received no definitive answers to my husband's current health challenges, certain diseases and disorders were ruled out. Knowing that the problems are not yet solved, I was feeling relieved and blessed at that moment nevertheless.--read more

It has come to my attention that part of the essay I posted last week was not written by Paige Swiney. The latter half of the essay was written by a retired Air Force Colonel, Steve Arrington, under the title of "The Difference." It can be viewed here.--read more

For all of the military spouses

Submitted by silverbear on Tue, 02/01/2005 - 11:17am.

I received this email from the Commanding General’s wife this morning. Like most military spouses, I receive this genre of email on a quasi-regular basis. After 10 years, I thought I had become inured to the emotional tug of this kind of essay. I was wrong.--read more

Justice delayed, but not necessarily denied

I don't understand the judicial system

Submitted by silverbear on Sun, 04/04/2004 - 2:06pm.

Let me start by saying that I had a mercifully brief bout with postpartum depression. It was terrifying. It's one of the reasons that my son is an only child.
Yesterday, in Tyler, Texas, a woman who killed her sons was acquitted. The jury believed that she was insane at the time. She will be sent to a maximum security psychiatric hospital, and she could be there for up to 40 years.--read more

What I find funny

Submitted by silverbear on Fri, 03/26/2004 - 5:25pm.

On one of the forum threads, Lynn asked us what we find funny. Here's what tickles my funny bone: Dogs riding in cars. I don't know why it amuses me so much. Perhaps it's because their joy is contagious. I just can't help giggling when I see a pooch sitting in the passenger seat, out for a ride.--read more
