Long Time, No Post!

lgunnoe's picture

Hello TNH friends. I can't believe how much time has passed since I've posted. Gosh! I miss you all!

Eulogy for my Mother-in-law

I don't know why I feel compelled to post this, but I do....so I'm gonna. It's long, though, so feel free to read only as much as you like.

I are a college graduate!

Done! Fini!

Classes, schoolwork, grades, ceremony, party...all complete. Gifts opened (several of them "drank") Eye-wink Laughing out loud

So...what's next?!? Puzzled

Oh, yes...band concerts, school parties...holiday dinners, Christmas celebrations....out-of-town-guests, 40th birthday, New Year's...job search...Anybody remember WHEN I thought I'd get a break? Seems to me that "relax" and "bask" just don't have slots on the schedule for the forseeable future. I need to work on that!

Empty(er) nest preview and back-to-work worries.

We've not had both kids at home at the same time for more than 36 hours in over 2 weeks and I'm beginning to feel a little wonky (Lynn's word Eye-wink ) about it. While I dearly love the occasional times when one or both of them is away overnight at a friend's or at a lock-in at church, etc....this extended time apart is weighing on me. Our entire family dynamic is different (not bad...just different) with one of them gone. I'm very much looking forward to our camping trip (Wednesday) and having 6 whole days with the four of us together 24/7. Of course, it's only 3 years until DD~15 will be off to college somewhere...I suppose these small doses of being apart may help with that transition, but I don't have to like it yet! Sticking out tongue

The Worst Thing Ever.....

lgunnoe's picture

I had to take a 15 year-old-girl shopping Monday evening for something to wear to her mother's funeral. (My DD-almost-15's best friend.)

It was a terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad day.

...and to use a phrase that is banned from our home, that I never use.....

Star Struck: Elizabeth Edwards: A Challenge!

lgunnoe's picture

I saw "Elizabeth Edwards" in the "Who's New" section and thought, "Wonder if it's really.....naw....can't be...."

Then I read Mrs. Edwards' lovely reply to Lynn's blog about the chemo caps...

Welcome to TNH, Mrs. Edwards. This community has been a wonderful support of friendship and community for us all. My prayers are with you for health and healing; for strength and courage; and for peace and love to surround you and all those who love and care for you.

8:30 Wednesday Evening....

The conversation went like this:

DD9: Mom? (this from upstairs)

Me: What sweetie? (from the living room)

DD9: Why do they make fancy underwear if nobody ever sees it? (she's getting ready for her bath, having discivered the new stash of undies in her drawer...about half with flowers/stripes/etc.)

Friday Night Football

Well, we're off to the first football game of the year. Now that DD14 is in the marching band, we'll either be attending or chaperoning until the end of October.

I asked DH if he'd like to "make-out" under the bleachers... (that being an activity I never experienced in high school.)

Odd Things I've Said Recently:

1.) "Take that head off the table and to the trash where it belongs!"

2.) "Get your toes out of my bra strap."

3.) "Leave her skin in there, she'll eat it."

I'd explain, but it probably wouldn't help! Shocked

Lenora's World

Grief:

Someone with an important part in the "Story of Me," died this week; the victim of a sensless act of violence and stupidity.

I am heartsick.

I'm in!

This is my first "blog," entry....ever. I've NOT had a good day, so I think I'm done for the moment!
