Anyone else doing Knitting Olympics?

Is anyone here besides Lynn and me taking part in the Knitting Olympics?
Lynn's mentioned the Knitting Olympics a couple of times and what she's going to do. I will be participating as a member of Tîm Cymru or Team Wales (I'm on the Frapper map--eek!). I will be knitting a pair of socks. I keep waffling about what kind of socks and yarn, right now I'm planning on doing one of the Folk Socks patterns in Noro Silk Garden, #211 on size 4-ish needles.
There are loads of Knitting Olympics Teams forming. There's The US Sock Team, Team Caffine, Team Merlot, Team Chocolate, Team Angstylvania, Team Goth (they knit with eyeliner) and so on.
Who's with us?
Since I plan to make a pair of socks, I am two-timing by taking part in the 2000 Socks! challenge because 2006 is...(drumroll)...The Year of the Sock, apparently.

That sounds kind of fun
I actually followed those links this time to find out what the Knitting Olympics was, and I really like the idea. Especially since I'll likely be glued to the screen and useless in the house the whole time they're on, anyway--I'm an Olympics junkie. (Good thing the Olympics are only every 2 years!) I've got an Aran cabled scarf pattern I've been meaning to work on--maybe I'll do that.
Like the idea
I'd like to join in....but not sure I will have the cash for new yarn before the Olympics start and I only have small amounts (a ball or two, tops) of yarn of one type. Unless I manage to think of something to make with some of my 20 balls of white baby yarn! (details on other thread).
maybe
I'll get back to you on this depending on how much other stuff I get done before then.
Bought my yarn...
So I guess I'm committed! My sweet husband gave me a gift certificate and a knitting bag for my birthday! Just in time, too.
I found this on the web, and
I found this on the web, and I'll be having a go too. Someone on my own Forum has challenged me to knit a three course dinner..........like you do. So, three course dinner it is.......
I like a challenge.
Finished!
Yay, I finished my scarf, and it looks great! That was fun! I've never finished any item so quickly before--I think the scarf is the real prize.
Now, to clean up the rest of my house that I ignored while I watched the Olympics and knit like crazy.
miserable failure
Didn't even come close to finishing. oh well.

Thrift stores?
Not sure what they're called over there, but on this side of the Atlantic you can often find bags of leftover yarn at thrift stores...places where people give away the stuff they don't want, the store sells it and the profits go to charity (sometimes). You might find lots of yarn that way on the cheap. You can find free knitting patterns for almost anything online.

Life and knitting
It sounded like a rough two weeks. Some things are more important than a knitting challenge, even if it is the Olympics. Hope things are looking up now!
they're called charity shops
Good idea Anhata. I came into a stash of free yarn recently. It mysteriously appeared when my parents moved from China to Atlanta. Since neither one of them actually knits or crochets, they are not sure where it came from. One of those things that turns up when you move. In our last move, I turned up six half-used containers of dental floss.
